U.S. military members serving in countries that observe Ramadan are required to adhere to certain practices while outside U.S. installations. One part of Ramadan is that those observing the holiday fast from dawn until sunset.
When outside U.S. controlled areas, eating and drinking in public during daylight hours is against the law.

Failure to obey could result in fines up to $685 or a sentence of up to two months in jail. “The commander’s policy dictates that airmen will adhere to local law, which prohibits eating, drinking or tobacco use off base in public,” said Sickles.
The only personnel exempt from this requirement are those performing strenuous labor outside U.S. controlled areas. They are authorized to drink and consume as much food as they need to maintain proper hydration and energy.
Here’s a question for all of us Christian conservatives who love the military: As of Friday’s Supreme Court ruling destroying the legal definition of marriage and now the U.S. military’s enforcement of Sharia law — what is the military to us? I’m going to have to correct you. Military units have been instructed to respect the cultures of foreign countries for YEARS. When deployed to Bahain in the last 80’s, we were briefed on Arab culture and under orders to dress appropriately. This is nothing new.

I am an American, and I live in an Arab country. During Ramadan, no-one is allowed to eat or drink in public, but if no Muslims are around it is ok. It seems that this is the case here. It only says no eating in public. This is just complying with the local law, and respecting others around who are fasting. Also, soldiers are allowed to eat and drink if they are doing heavy work.
I hate the idea that Muslims are gaining ground here in the USA however in this instance I must point out that we here in the USA ask that Muslims adhere to our USA laws and customs while here so why would we object when they ask the same in their country?

Let me think about this…..hummm, when we deployed, only a very few actually left the camps for missions. We ate breakfast before we left….bacon etc. Lots of bacon. Then we went and did the mission…stopped and ate an MRE when we needed to, but more often stopped at acamp for lunch. The idea of going out into a public resturant is crazy. So who keeps spreading this crap?

Look closely at the second paragraph which specifically states personnel exempt are those performing strenuous labor outside of U. S. controlled areas where they are authorized to drink and consume food and water necessary to maintain proper hydration and energy.
While at this time, I would advise all U. S. Military to stay on base during this “holiday” of the foreign country’s, it will not surprise me to see it become standard for all to “fast” from sunrise to sunset in the near future when deployed over there.

In forming your opinion of our President’s skill set, did you remember that the neocons who initiated a needless war in Iraq, didn’t bother to plan beyond the invasion to the occupation. That they diverted money from our soldiers fighting the real enemy in Afghanistan. That they cut VA programs and benefits before the Iraq invasion. That they refused to armor the vehicles used by our soldiers. That they didn’t provide sufficient boots on the ground to secure the infrastructure from guerrilla activity. That they fired the Iraqi army turning them into unemployed people with guns. That they didn’t secure the ammunition dumps which provided the material for IED’s to be used agains OUR soldiers. That they paid no-bid contractors to bring insecure civilians into our military bases to act as spies against us. That they put a Czar in charge of Iraq to loot the oil reserves while allowing anarchy to destroy the civil order. That they signed a Status of Forces agreement that would pull our soldiers out of Iraq on a specified date.

I think our men and women of the US armed forces should be allowed to eat or drink to maintain proper strength and wisdom. If the military personnel remain in certain places at certain times this will give the enemy a perfect opportunity to steal or sabotage the US military equipment. The president should be more concerned with the health of the protectors of our country than anything else. No matter where they are.
