Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin signed a bill into law recently that allows some school personnel to carry guns in schools. The reasoning obviously is to protect the students. This allows all schools to better defend students from a madman entering the school with the intent of harming students and faculty.
Wilson Public Schools will soon have six teachers carrying guns in the classroom. In November, those teachers will have their concealed carry permits and will be allowed to have firearms allowing them to protect their students from a school shooter. Superintendent Eric Smith hopes to have an at least one armed staff member in each school building.
This is certain to have gun control ninnies upset as they don’t trust teachers with their Second Amendment rights. But, the truth is that allowing teachers to be armed will add a layer of defense and an immediate response if there is a school shooting.

The school is paying for the concealed carry training and permits but the staff will have to provide their own firearms.

A great idea! Should be like this everywhere. Each classroom should have a teacher that carries, whether a gun, stun gun or tazer. Of course they all need proper training.

I’d be thrilled, relieved and grateful. I would feel so much better knowing there were concealed carriers on campus with them. And I as a teacher would feel so much more secure. I would want to be one of those carrying. It should not be public knowledge, tho, who is carrying. Just the knowledge that there may be armed personnel on campus will be a huge deterrent. And if something crazy does go down, there can be an immediate response, instead of waiting for help. The death toll can change a lot in 2-3 minutes!
‘Bout damn time! That’s the only response that makes any sense – to me as a former cop. No PD or City could afford to have armed personnel in every building at every school – including every event or every facility. Magnetometers won’t stop the insane, the plotter, or the brutish from entering a school at will. Nor would a “direct alarm line” to the PD in case of trouble, given that response times are, at best, totally unpredictable. Teachers care for their kids, the good and the bad. They’d have to care to be able to take on that job – God bless them. Give them the power to really protect their lambs!
