After receiving scorn for his disgusting screed against President Trump, Late Show host Stephen Colbert just got some really bad news. He is going to be investigated by the Federal Communications Commission.
The body’s chairman Ajit Pai said it received several complaints about the monologue, which some viewers branded homophobic.
It concerned crude sexual references involving Mr Trump and his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin.
The “crude remarks” were in reference to President’ Trump’s alleged (and unfounded) close ties to Putin and Russia. In a vitriol and hate-filled rant, Colbert said, referring to Trump, “The only thing your mouth is good for is being Vladimir Putin’s c*ck holster.”
The line has been accused by people on both the left and right of being homophobic and harmful to the LGBT community.
Pai and the FCC will investigate Colbert to see if he violated the Commission’s “obscenity” laws:
The FCC flags speech it considers “indecent” before 10 p.m., he told Fox Business Network, and looks for “obscene” content after that point. Colbert’s “The Late Show” airs at 11:35 p.m. ET on CBS.
The agency’s website states that content must meet a three-tier Supreme Court test to be labeled “obscene.”
“It must appeal to an average person’s prurient interest; depict or describe sexual conduct in a ‘patently offensive’ way; and, taken as a whole, lack serious literary, artistic, political or scientific value,” it reads.
I don’t think anything will come of this. Colbert doesn’t seem to be shaken and is as defiant as ever.
Trump Derangement Syndrome rolls on. Liberals in the media and beyond will continue to shout and scream and lose it over President Trump.
They just don’t get it. And they’ll continue to be hysterical and out of touch because of it.
Should Colbert be fined? Share your thoughts.
