Mitch McConnell Feels He Needs to ‘Explain to the American People’ Why Ukraine is the ‘Most Important’ Thing in the World

Gas tank low and you’re not sure if you have an extra $20 to put into it? Grocery bill got you bummed? Maybe you’re even thinking about skipping breakfast because your wallet is stretched too thin and you can’t even afford the generic Raisin Bran.

No matter. None of these things are important. Or, at least they’re not as important as funding Ukraine’s war effort. So says Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell.

In an interview with Fox News host Dana Perino, the Kentucky Republican responded to reports that Ukraine is “burning through ammunition faster than the US and NATO can produce them.”

“What is Biden’s responsibility in trying to make sure that people in America – whose support for Ukraine is softening – will want to continue to try to help them?” Perino asked.

McConnell responded: “Well, I’m going to try to help explain to the American people that defeating the Russians in Ukraine is the single most important event going on in the world right now.”

McConnell: Ukraine is the Most Important Thing

Senator Mitch McConnell argued that despite the many billions of taxpayer dollars that have already gone to Ukraine, the investment will actually “save us enormous money down the road if the Ukrainians can succeed.”

That’s a big if.

Plus, he added, they’re only asking for money, not personnel, and it’s a relatively small amount – about 0.2% of our gross domestic product. Oh, and “the Europeans are stepping up” so we should too, apparently.

“There should be bipartisan support for this,” he insists.

Meanwhile, there is a massive toxic chemical disaster affecting East Palestine, Ohio right now, and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) turned down a request for disaster relief.

Shrugs off Poll Showing Americans Are Tiring of Helping Ukraine

In the interview, McConnell shrugged off public opinion suggesting the American people are growing weary of financing Ukraine’s war effort.

A new poll from The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research shows just 37% are in favor of sending taxpayer dollars to Ukraine, while 38% are opposed. Another 23% say they are neither in favor or opposed.

“I’m sorry public opinion is sliding, but I want to reassure the American people that this is enormously important,” McConnell reassured.

“We need to stay together on a bipartisan basis in our country and defend these people who are bravely fighting for freedom and for democracy in Ukraine,” he continued.

The comments come as no surprise, as McConnell echoed sentiments that Ukraine is the most important thing going back in May.

“I think we all agree the most important thing going on in the world right now is the war in Ukraine,” he told reporters at the time.

The latest public polling indicates Americans view the economy, immigration, and crime as the most important priorities to address. But that’s just in their world.

And that doesn’t matter to Mitch McConnell. He’ll help you understand that soon enough.

  • If your goal is to bankrupt America then yes it is the most important because it will drain our finances faster than anything else. McConnell is part of the One World Government Elitists team.

  • Nonsense. We will not receive any material benefit were Putin to quit and leave Ukraine. I agree with Scott that Putin wants what he believes is a Russian part of Ukraine. As poorly as he's done with that effort there is no way he would want to engage The EU or the US in an all out war.

  • So, so many reasons it’s not. First and foremost, you’re just going to have to launder your I’ll begotten funds in another country. Your wife is Chinese and deflection with Ukraine while your wife silently gives China a heads up that you are as compromised as Joey biden is. All politicians, both sides of the isle, are money laundering corrupt players. While the Ukraine deflection appears coincidental, it isn’t. Zelensky offered all the dirt Ukraine had on Joey biden, the evidence of Biden’s corruption for a price, Trump decided not to pay for that evidence and bingo-bango we’re paying almost a trillion in blackmail to a corrupt little country to cover up the biden corruption and as I’m sure you’ve noticed Zelensky feels he can DEMAND America pay more and more and more blackmail and biden will give it to him because that evidence he holds over biden’s head is just that strong, and irrefutable.

  • Use your own money politician to fund Ukraine! We the people don't support this! Got enough problems here that need to be fixed!

  • Let's see Taiwan currently produces over 80% of the most important semiconductor chips that we need to support our economy, and Communist China is threatening to invade and take over Taiwan.

We are diverting weapons that should be going to Taiwan to support a war that Ukraine started when they bombarded the Russian speaking citizens of eastern Ukraine. This happened a week or so before Russia decided to come into the Donbas region to protect what they see as Russian citizens. While I have no love for Putin, I do believe that if the Mexican government decided to attack one of the enclaves in Mexico, that a huge number of American citizens have retired to, our military would be on the move into Mexico almost immediately.

Like many other things, McConnell is joined at the hip with BiDumb on this issue. The big guys crime family gets lots of loot from Ukraine and McConnell's wife's family makes a fortune kowtowing to the PRC with their shipping company.

  • Not only impeach biden, impeach the betrayer of America MCconnell - DITCH MITCH should be the battle cry and anyone that supports the destroyer of America Biden and his comrades in arms.

  • I understand the idea that the best place to defend your nation is on the other guys real estate. I wouldn't want to fight Russian troops here in South Dakota. The problem is no one has sold me on the idea that Vladamir Putin wants to invade the US. No one has sold me on the idea he wants to invade Europe. From all I've read about him he wants to reassemble what they had under the Soviet Union. He doesn't seem a threat to the US. China may be a threat and peeing in Putins Cornflakes seems a great way to make them into a threat.

Are we ready for a war with both China and Russia? Will Europe, much less Ukraine help us then?
