Jimmy Kimmel Shamelessly Uses Oscars To Push His Own January 6 Footage Agenda

Late Night host Jimmy Kimmel took full advantage of his invite to host the 95th Academy Awards by attempting to discredit the recently released January 6 footage, Fox News, and Tucker Carlson all in one fell swoop during last week’s Oscars broadcast to nearly 20 million worldwide viewers.

“Anyone who’s ever received a text message from their father knows how important editing is,” the Oscars host began rather innocuously. Editing being one of the categories awarded at the Oscars.

Then Kimmel dropped his punchline:

“Editors do amazing things. Editors can turn 44,000 hours of violent insurrection footage into a respectful sightseeing tour of The Capitol. Their work is underappreciated.”

While Kimmel does not mention Carlson by name, the comment is clearly directed at the Fox Host in reference to over 40,000 hours of January 6 footage turned over to him by House Speaker, Kevin McCarthy.

Not surprisingly, the cheap dig elicited chuckles from the Hollywood elite seated in the upscale Dolby Theatre.

Kimmel’s smug expression upon delivering the punchline suggests he was pleased with himself. Just look at his face in the clip below.

Tucker Carlson’s January 6 Footage

Anyone open to the truth of the events that unfolded at the Capitol on January 6, 2021 would reasonably support the release of all footage.

Even a former advisor to Bill Clinton turned liberal journalist Dr. Naomi Wolf was compelled to pen a lengthy apology titled Dear Conservatives, I Apologize after viewing the newly released footage. In the mea culpa, Wolf writes that she was “duped”, saying:

“I believed a farrago of lies. And, as a result of these lies, and my credulity — and the credulity of people similarly situated to me – many conservatives’ reputations are being tarnished, on false bases. “

Kimmel’s Oscars comments, however, seem to imply that Carlson or Fox News deceptively edited the footage.

Was January 6 Footage Edited?

Ironically, Democrats were previously in the hot seat under allegations of “selectively editing” January 6th footage shown to the public. An allegation which Democrats, including J6 Committee chair Bennie Thompson, vigorously denied.

Now, however, Kimmel used his time in the spotlight on one of the most-viewed programs to deflect this scrutiny onto Tucker Carlson and the recent footage drop by Fox News.

Kimmel, of course, did not come up with this idea on his own. The leftwing media is hard-lining a push to cast doubt on the footage and its potential implications. The AP News put out an article titled “Tucker Carlson amplifies Jan. 6 lies with GOP-provided video” while PBS jumped into the dogpile publishing a piece titled “Fox News uses selective U.S. Capitol security footage to spread misinformation on Jan. 6.”

Carlson never claimed to be releasing ALL footage from January 6. The Fox firebrand specifically claimed to be releasing never-before-seen footage of the day for public consumption.

“Last night, we aired video from surveillance cameras on Capitol Hill,” Fox News reported, “that footage was held from the American public.”

As previously reported by The Political Insider, the newly released Jan 6 footage exposed several lies perpetuated by the mainstream.

Nevertheless, the mainstream media continues to portray the surveillance footage as “conspiracy theories” and a false depiction of “mostly peaceful” protesting.

According to Daily Mail, “Carlson linked the Republican Party ever more closely to pro-Trump conspiracy theories about the 2021 riot and described the riot as ‘peaceful’.”

Ironic, eh? Where have we heard that before?

You might recall this fiery chaotic scene which ABC labeled a “peaceful protest” in its caption.

Or this gem from Kenosha with CNN displaying a chyron that reads, “Fiery But Mostly Peaceful Protests After Police Shooting”.

Oscars Ratings

Another bit of irony comes by way of the Oscars ratings. Once the most-watched program behind the Super Bowl, the Oscars’ viewership has been on a steep decline in recent years. Super Bowl viewership is also notably down since going “woke”.

Given this is Jimmy Kimmel’s third turn hosting the Oscars (previously in 2017 and 2018), is this ratings slump even a surprise?

Kimmel’s jab at Tucker was far from his only sour grape Sunday night. His mention of last year’s infamous Oscars slap between Will Smith and Chris Rock failed to impress.

Plus, Kimmel reportedly made Taliban shooting survivor Malala Yousafzai uncomfortable during the ceremony. One viewer even called him “a national disgrace”.

Walt Disney Co.’s ABC network holds the contract for the Oscars through 2028. Disney has been on a steady descent into “wokeness” so it’s really no surprise to see the trajectory of the Oscars.

Oscars viewership has gone from 55 million in 1998 – the year “Titanic” dominated – to just 18.7 million in 2023. While 18.7 is slightly up from last year, viewership remains considerably lower than its historical average.

At what point will they stop preaching their personal politics and simply give the people what they want?

In that spirit, here’s a look at what could’ve been if the Oscars wised up and chose Ricky Gervais over Jimmy Kimmel.
