Jim Carrey Preaches Christ-Based Message To Former Inmates

Actor Jim Carrey is known for his laugh-out-loud slapstick comedy, but what you may not know about him is that he has a great deal of faith in Jesus Christ.

Carrey has been very open about his struggle with depression, and he recently utilized that struggle to deliver a powerful, Christ-based message of hope to a group of ex-inmates and gang members at Homeboy Industries in Los Angeles:

Your being here is an indication that you’ve made that decision already. You’ve made the decision to walk through the gate of forgiveness to grace. Just as Christ did on the cross. He suffered terribly and He was broken by it, to the point of doubt and a feeling of absolutely abandonment, which all of you have felt. Then there was a decision to be made. And the decision was to look upon the people who were causing that suffering with compassion and with forgiveness, and that’s what opens the gates of heaven for all of us. I wish that for all of you. I wish that for myself.

You have to watch his full comments below. They’re absolutely moving:

Carrey has had a long spiritual journey. He was raised Catholic but then turned to Presbyterianism later in life. He’s also expressed respect for the teachings of Buddha and a distrust of organized religion, but clearly Carrey has a wonderful relationship with Jesus Christ. What he said at Homeboy Industries is beautiful, and it’s wonderful that he’s rising above his struggles to inspire hope in others.

If only more of Hollywood would preach such a message of faith.
