President Obama has been hemorrhaging Democratic support for his nuclear deal with Iran. And he got a rather huge defeat over the weekend when the Democratic National Committee failed to pass a resolution of support at its summer meeting.
The Washington Post reports that DNC Chair Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz blocked the resolution. It could have offered Obama positive attention as Democrats continue to jump away from his plan with the hostile nation.
New York Times reporter Jonathan Martin said on CNN that this is a step back for Obama as the party he controls failed to support his tumultuous deal with our enemies.
“The Obama-controlled DNC could not pass a resolution this weekend expressing support for President Obama’s Iran deal. It’s a bit of an embarrassment for the administration seeing as how it’s his party, he appointed Debbie Wasserman Schultz, and it’s revived the sort-of latest round of eye-rolling among Democratic operatives about the state of the party.”

CNN host John King said that Martin was being too kind and that this was not a small slight but a “big embarrassment for the president.”
