For as much heat as Donald Trump has taken for his strict stance against illegal immigration and refugee resettlement, the U.S. is book-ended by countries who are no different when it comes to wanting to enforce their immigration laws.
Not only does Mexico deport more illegal immigrants from Central America than we do in the United States, they’ve doubled deportations over the past year (ironically as the Mexican government continues to denounce Trump for doing the same). Thousands of illegal immigrants in the U.S. that have “self-deported” themselves in Canada have found that they aren’t allowed there either.
Speaking of Canada, President Justin Trudeau promised to take in the Syrian refugees that would be prevented from entering the U.S. after Trump ended our refugee program, but never actually ended up following through on that promise.
Could it be that leaders are simply virtue signaling, when in reality they know Trump’s policies on immigration are simply common sense? Duh.
In Sweden last week, the Dalai Lama expressed sympathy with the plight of refugees from the Middle East, but said that he doesn’t believe it’s the responsibility of Europe (or other non-Middle Eastern nations) to permanently host refugees. “Europe belongs to the Europeans,” he said.
As the Daily Wire reported, “the former Nobel Peace Prize Winner sympathized with the plight of refugees and even said that Europe is ‘morally responsible’ for helping those who are facing “danger against their life,” he stressed that the end-game should be the rehabilitation of their homeland, not migration to Europe. ‘Receive them, help them, educate them… but ultimately they should develop their own country,’ he continued.”
Two years ago, the Dalai Lama told the German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung about the refugee crisis, that “Germany cannot become an Arab country.”
The Lama is widely viewed as a progressive religious leader, but now they’re the ones left scratching their heads.
Unfortunate, xenophobic statement by @DalaiLama. Tibetan refugees live in several parts of the world. What advice would he have for them? From the U.S. to Dharamsala & Ladakh in India, Tibetan refugees are everywhere. How would it feel if someone asked them to go back to Tibet! https://t.co/pCoEyiELV4

Imagine if someone had told you a decade ago that in 2018, the 14th Dalai Lama, a Nobel laureate and a refugee, would launch an attack on refugees, while Aung San Suu Kyi, a Nobel laureate and former prisoner of conscience, would defend the unlawful imprisonment of journalists.

And, comments echoing the Dalai Lama’s sentiments were plentiful.

The Dalai Lama is right. Europe belongs to Europeans as much as Tibet belongs to Tibetans. Not the Han Chinese. But #LeLi logic would say Tibet belongs to non-Tibetans. This is not about #Right and #Left but commonsense. #FakeLiberals #BogusAngst https://t.co/sxcN0q3AOk

Well it seems like the trope 'The older you get the more right-wing you become" even applies for the Dalai Lama pic.twitter.com/MwgCiplMYV

In a world where liberals will brand literally anything racist, will the Dalai Lama be the next added to that list? I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s already made the list.
“typical skinhead”
Tibetans yes are refugees…..difference they are humble grateful sincere people. they do not go into other countries uninvited and try to take over cultures and they do not cause disruption in the daily lives of people and the governments rules regulations and laws in those host nations. The Deli lama is a peaceful human being and so to the people of Tibet.
Ah . . . so . . .
Once again, the ‘inscrutable Oriental Mind’ speaks common sense . . . from experience. Charlie Chan, are you still with us . . . ?
Aaaaa, the liberals heads are exploding. So, what !!!! He has an opinion that differs from their own. The only thing I can add at this tome :: GET OVER YOURSELVES, LIGHTEN UP. In another decade the EU and many other countries will be unrecognizable, if not completely destroyed because of migrating immigrants with no job, relying on government assistance, and creating ciaos. It will be their “Chicago”.
BLM has done just that, declared milk racist…

Oh, so he’s “racist” for having common sense according to the imbecile liberals. I guess the milk I buy is also racist because it’s white?
I don’t find anything wrong with his thinking.Sounds pretty smart to me!
I don’t see a bit of hypocrisy here. The Chinese forced the Tibetans out and hung out the unwelcome mat. The Tibetans would love to return to their country but it no longer exists. They cannot rebuild a country that has ceased to exist. He is right that if it is possible that refugees should return to their countries of origin and rebuild them and not over stay their welcome elsewhere by demanding that their host countries adapt to them and not that they adapt to their new countries. They should not be a burden to countries who are struggling to take care of their own. This is not Racism but common sense. Their countries if salvageable need the assistance of the ones that left if they are to rebuild. They should ultimately be happier there than anywhere else as the saying there is no place like home implies
Finish what he said.Don’t be like CNN and only pick out what you want to sound relevant. He also said in that same sentence “help them, educate them, and send them back”.
He said, “receive them.” Good advice.
it is not a matter of if he should go back to a country that no longer exists. I am sure that he and his people would love to if they could but the Chinese made that impossible. I have been to Nepal where the largest population of Tibetan refugees live and they are content but they would still love to go back. They are regarded as lower Caste people in Nepal. They never will be treated as equals there. Please be better informed before you say such things.
OK, then the Dalai Lama should go back to Tibet? I think this article is missing some context and nuance via some selective editing.
