Cuomo Bashes Trump Despite Once Praising Him On COVID-19, And Says In NY ‘Our Way Worked, It Was Beautiful’

Trump Smacks Cuomo Over Nursing Home Scandal: Thousands Died Because Of NY's Governor

During the first night of the Democratic national convention on Monday night, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo slammed Donald Trump’s handling of COVID-19, despite praising the President last month. He also claimed that in New York “our way worked.”

This is the same Cuomo who has been widely criticized for his approach to the coronavirus, particularly his policy of insisting those who tested positive for the virus to be admitted into nursing homes.

Cuomo: ‘We saw the failure of a government that tried to deny the virus’

“Our current federal government is dysfunctional and incompetent,” Cuomo said of Trump’s administration. “It couldn’t fight off the virus, in fact, it didn’t even see it coming.”

“We saw the failure of a government that tried to deny the virus, then tried to ignore it, and then tried to politicize it,” Cuomo claimed.

“We have seen in this crisis that government matters,” Cuomo added. “And it determines whether we thrive and grow, or whether we live or die.”

Last month, Cuomo praised President Trump for asking Americans to wear masks to slow the spread of COVID-19.

“He has delivered for New York. He has,” Cuomo told reporters at the time. He also said his partnership in battling the illness with the President “worked.”

Cuomo also said during his convention video on Monday, “New Yorkers were ground zero for the COVID virus, and have gone from one of the highest infection rates on the globe to one of the lowest. We climbed the impossible mountain, and right now, we are on the other side.”

“We did it with the kindness and assistance of so many,” he added. “New Yorkers want to thank everyone who came to our aid. 30,000 Americans who volunteered to come here to help in our hour of need. Your love gave us the strength to carry on. We went through hell, but we have learned much.”

After talking about how America’s problems go beyond the coronavirus, Cuomo stated, “our collective strength is exercised through government. It is, in effect, our immune system. And our current federal government is dysfunctional and incompetent.”

“And for all the pain and all the tears, our way worked, and it was beautiful,” Cuomo claimed of his state’s approach to coronavirus. “We showed that our better angels are strong and that Americans will rise to their call. We saw that even at the end of the day, even if it is a long day, that love wins.”

“Americans’ eyes have been opened, and we have seen in this crisis the truth, that government matters and leadership matters and it determines whether we thrive and grow or whether we live or die,” Cuomo finished.
