Fox News host Chris Wallace spoke out on Sunday to admit that President Joe Biden has been “flat wrong” about Afghanistan.
While interviewing Secretary of State Antony Blinken about Afghanistan, Wallace said, “Here’s another statement that the president made that was flat wrong, take a look.”
“I have seen no question of marketability from our allies around the world,” Biden said in the video. “I’ve got the exact opposite. We are acting with dispatch. We are committing to what we said we would do.”
“Armin Laschet, the likely successor to German Chancellor Angela Merkel, said, ‘This is the biggest debacle that NATO has seen since its foundation,'” Wallace said. “Mr. Secretary, does the president not know what’s going on?”
“This is an incredibly emotional time for many of us and including allies and partners who have been shoulder to shoulder with us in Afghanistan for 20 years, at high cost to themselves as well as us,” Blinken replied.
“But I’ve got to tell you this, Chris, from the get-go, I spent more time with our NATO partners in Brussels virtually, from before the president made his decision, to when he made his decision, to every time since. We’ve been working very, very closely together,” he added.
This came after Wallace publicly turned on Biden over the mess in Afghanistan.
“It’s been a mess,” Wallace said on Fox News. “You can talk about the messaging problem and certainly that’s an issue. But it’s really, it’s a reality problem. The problem isn’t what had happened in terms of Biden’s speech.”
“I mean, that was bad, his first speech, the buck stops here, but he pointed fingers. I think the interview with George Stephanopoulos went badly,” he added. “The pictures over the weekend of him sitting by himself at a big table at Camp David while all of his aides are at the White House, all of it was a mess.”
“But in the end, it’s those pictures on the other side of the screen from me, the fact that that, you know, we have this airport secured, but we have no way of getting Americans and our Afghan allies from downtown Kabul or elsewhere in Afghanistan to that airport,” he continued.
“And as long as that remains the situation, the president can make any speech he wants, get any interview he wants, it isn’t going to make any difference,” Wallace concluded. “That’s what people are focusing on, that Americans and American allies are unable to get to the airport and get to that hope and freedom on one of those C-17s.”
