Van Jones Says Democrats Are in Trouble: Trump Is Helping African Americans ‘In Real Life’

After the State of the Union address Tuesday night, CNN commentator Van Jones warned Democrats  that President Donald Trump was helping African Americans “in real life” and was actively reaching out to them for votes.

Jones noted that the president cited several measures to specifically help African-Americans.

Jones Gets Real with Democrats

“What he was saying to African-Americans can be effective,” Jones said. “You may not like it, but he mentioned HBCUs [historically black colleges and universities] — our black colleges have been struggling for a long time, a bunch of them have gone under — he threw a lifeline to them, in real life, in his budget. He talked about that. He talked about the criminal justice reform. He talked about opportunity zones. He talked about school choice.”

Democrats failed to report results of Monday’s first, crucial presidential primary contest, the Iowa Caucus. As of Wednesday morning the full results are still not in. Jones noted that Trump’s State of the Union address came in the wake of Democrats’ completely flubbing Iowa caucuses.

Jones tweeted a video of what he said on the CNN panel, adding: “WAKE UP, folks. The #IowaCaucus was a debacle, followed by a strong #SOTU speech laying out Trump’s strategy to win – which includes going for Black voters. This was a warning shot from the Trump campaign to liberals, and we need to take this VERY seriously in order to win.”

Democrats Continue to be Their Own Worst Enemy

Jones has been critical of the Trump administration, though he did support Trump passing criminal justice reform through the First Step Act.

President Trump paid tribute to several African-American guests and heroes during his SOTU, including Tuskegee Airman Charles McGee, Army Veteran Tony Rankins and fourth grader Janiyah Davis, who he awarded an Opportunity Scholarship.

Jones is not wrong that President Trump heavily emphasized issues of importance to African Americans in ways that Democrats ignore at their own peril.

Will it help re-elect him in 2020? Time will tell. In the meantime, especially after the Iowa Caucus, Democrats continue to be their own worst enemy.

  • Van, is it more important to you for Democrats to "win", or is it more important to you to see the quality of African-American lives' improve? You acknowledge Trump is reaching out and making lives better, yet you are consumed with Democrats winning. You are conflicted, man. You need to come to grips with what you stand for.

  • Not according to Van Jones...AND... " · Members of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King’s extended family came out in support of President Trump , on the national day of recognition for the civil rights leader."

  • Trump is slightly more popular among blacks than the KK

Poll: Trump approval rating drops among minorities after 'go back' remarks

    Volume 0%

President Trump’s approval rating has dropped among minority voters after he told four Democratic lawmakers, all women of color, to "go back" to where they came from, according to a Hill-HarrisX poll released on Wednesday.
The survey, which was conducted from July 20-21, finds that 23 percent of Hispanic voters approve of Trump’s job performance, a 16-point decrease from a previous poll conducted between July 8 and 9.
The poll indicates that Trump’s approval is down to 13 percent among African American voters, marking a 5-point drop from two weeks ago. Trump’s approval rating has also dipped 3 points among Asian voters.
Keep dreaming, keep listening to his lies, Like the economy is the greatest in history, or that the GDP is the highest ever, when, in fact, it stands at 2.1%, the lowest amongst the last seven presidents, and each of the last 3 quarters, it has been dropping like Trump's support. Check whatever search engine you have, and ask'' Who has created more jobs, Trump or Obama''? I doubt you will, because the answer will shock you, real facts shock you, so I know you'll never check, because if you did, you could call me a liar, but you like to live in Trump's fantasy world, don't you, where you never have to think for yourself, like you actually could.

  • Funny, NOW his approval rating has gone up. WAY UP!! Sorry, Charlie, your Democrats have NO CHANCE against him!! Get ready for 4 more years, and if you don't like it HIKE IT!!!

  • Thank you Mr. Jones our President is the best he is not racist and he deserves alot mor respect from the Dems all the dems want to do is rule us like 3Rd world countries and we are not stupid enought to buy that! Nancy is nothing but the devil and the rest of the clan!

  • The problem with the "Go back to where they came from" is inaccurate and takes what he said out of context. He was referring to "The Squid" member,Omar, when she tried to tell President Trump how to run the country. He said"Go back to your country, solve their problems, then come back here and show us how it's done."
Of course all the media heard was "Go back to your own country" just like they took the Ukrainian phone call, mentally joined "Do me a favor" with "investigate" by deleting everything said in between.

  • Itoo.I want to see someone go up to the Speaker, grab the gavel and pop her on the top of her head to see if it will make a wood on wood thud. My money is on it will sound like that. Or it will sound like hitting something sift and squishy.

  • It's true. The real "Racists" are the first ones to call someone or others"Racist." Carrot dangling Democrats have been promising "African-Americans" and other minorities the world, until they have boxed up their votes. Then they do nothing for them except try to keep them on the plantation dependent on a few government crumbs in trade for their votes.
