President Trump Kills Obama’s ‘Wage Gap’ Regulations

The alleged male/female wage gap has been debunked a million times over already. But did you know Donald Trump also destroyed the myth?

During his campaign, then-candidate Trump was asked by a female leftist if women would earn the same as men during his presidency. Thankfully, Trump wasn’t falling for it. He hilariously replied “you’ll earn as much if you do as good a job.”

That was certainly a blunt and politically incorrect answer. But it was also one that actually acknowledges the root cause of the wage gap has nothing to do with discrimination, but with choice.

The Obama Administration was ready to create a regulatory headache for business over the mythical pay gap in 2016, proposing a regulation that would’ve required businesses with over 100 employees (and federal contractors with over 50) to collect data on how much they pay workers of different sexes, races, and ethnicities. The Trump Administration has silently been freezing and unwinding regulations behind closed doors, and this was his latest target.

Neomi Rao, administrator of the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs, which analyzes the cost of federal rules and regulations, said, “We don’t believe it would actually help us gather information about wage and employment discrimination. It’s enormously burdensome.”

Ivanka Trump, who regularly pushes feminist narratives including the “gender wage gap,” expressed support via a statement for the White House’s change: “Ultimately, while I believe the intention was good and agree that pay transparency is important, the proposed policy would not yield the intended results. We look forward to continuing to work with EEOC, OMB, Congress and all relevant stakeholders on robust policies aimed at eliminating the gender wage gap.”

Data collected by the proposed mandates would have been weaponized via government and private legal shakedowns of businesses in the guise of combating unlawful forms of discrimination.

This was a fantastic move that frees businesses of burdensome regulations and fines. And not only that, but it further helps disprove the gender wage gap. But in case you still aren’t convinced, I’ll go further into detail.

Liberals are wrong about the gender wage gap because men and women aren’t doing the same jobs (on average) and aren’t working the same hours (on average). Below is a handy chart laying out the details of the gender wage gap:

So what happens when you control for all these factors, like occupational choice? Back in 2014, a study commissioned by the U.S. Department of Labor came to “the unambiguous conclusion that the differences in the compensation of men and women are the result of a multitude of factors and that the raw wage gap should not be used as the basis to justify corrective action. Indeed, there may be nothing to correct. The differences in raw wages may be almost entirely the result of the individual choices being made by both male and female workers.”

So, that settles that, right? Apparently not for today’s liberals, who will mockingly use the term “alternative facts” without a hint of irony.

But for the Trump Administration, it’s indeed a settled issue. We already have equal pay laws on the books in the form of the 1963 Equal Pay Act and the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act of 2009. If a woman is in the position where she is earning less than her male counterparts in identical positions with near-identical circumstances, she can sue her employer and make a pretty penny for herself in the process. The lack of such lawsuits lends even more credibility to the reality that women are not being paid less than men, they’re earning less.
