In the wake of reports that the Biden administration wants to pay illegal immigrants $450,000 each if their families were separated at the border during the Trump administration, several dozen GOP Congressmen are starting to push back.
House Republicans are demanding answers from members of the Biden administration for what they call a “horrific decision.”

The GOP members signed on to a letter to Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas, Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra, and U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland.
According to reports, Biden’s team is working out a plan where immigrants and their families who entered the country illegally and were separated at the border would each receive $450,000.
At least 45 Republican House members led by Rep. Greg Murphy (R-NC) also includes House Minority Whip Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA), GOP Caucus Chair Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY), and Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX).
The Republicans blasted the plan, writing, “Promising tens of thousands of dollars to those who unlawfully entered the United States would not only reward criminal behavior, but it would surely send a message to the world that our borders are open and our rule of law will not be enforced.”

From the minute he stepped into the Oval Office, Joe Biden has made certain to scrap nearly every Trump-era immigration policy that had kept illegal immigration in relative check. In addition to halting construction on the border wall, Biden also rescinded the Migrant Protection Protocols, other wise known as “Remain In Mexico,” which requires those seeking asylum to remain in Mexico until their hearings in the U.S.
Biden also rolled back travel and immigration restrictions on citizens from majority Muslim countries, and kept DACA in place.
Republicans who signed on to the letter to the Department Secretaries say that these early moves by Joe Biden have created “the worst self-inflicted border crisis in history.”

According to reports from the Wall Street Journal, the hefty price tag is in response to lawsuits filed by both parents and children, who claimed that the separations at the border led them to suffer “lasting psycological trauma.”
According to the latest census, the median household income in the United States was roughly $67,000 in 2020.
In other words, Americans will have to work almost seven years to earn the sum the Biden administration wants to pay to people who illegally entered the country.
