In October, just over a year after the 2016 election, CNN’s Anderson Cooper observed that President Donald Trump seems bent on undoing the Obama legacy. (RELATED: President Trump Is Taking Obama’s Legacy Out With the Trash).
Well, no kidding. It wasn’t much of a legacy worth preserving – $20 trillion in debt, a foreign policy that led to the rise of ISIS, a disastrous healthcare law, subpar economic growth, and much, much more. The only aspect of the Obama legacy I like was the net loss of 1,042 state and federal Democrat seats, including congressional and state legislative seats, governorships and the presidency, under Obama’s watch. In fact, if it wasn’t for the Obama legacy, we probably wouldn’t have Trump in office in the first place. He hasn’t even been in office for two years yet, and he’s already on track to leave behind a much more lasting legacy. The latest Ben Garrison political cartoon covers just that…
To summarize just a bit:
- Trump has rolled back funding for a program intended to help individuals navigate the ObamaCare insurance marketplace 90 percent, and signed an executive order to allow for groups to purchase insurance against state lines. He also ripped the heart out of ObamaCare in repealing the individual mandate.
- Trump oversaw the unemployment rate hitting a historic low of 3.9 percent in April. Unemployment among blacks and Latinos fell to 6.6 percent and 4.8 percent, respectively, which are their lowest levels in recorded history — and half the rates of only five years ago.
- ISIS has been decimated, losing over 98% of their territory since their peak. The terror group has lost their so-called Caliphate, and with it, most of their infrastructure to pump out new propaganda to gain recruits.
Obama’s legacy really isn’t worth celebrating – so it’s no wonder that’s Trump’s will be undoing as much of it as he can.
