New Poll Shows Justin Amash Getting Crushed as He Joins Democrats on Contempt Vote

We’ve seen politicians ‘evolve’ in their positions over time before. And we’ve seen them fall from grace. But the complete transformation of Republican Rep. Justin Amash from Tea Party darling to staunch advocate for the Democrats has been stunning.

And a new poll suggests his fall from grace could be equally as dramatic.

The poll, conducted by Practical Political Consulting/MIRS poll, shows Amash trailing his primary challenger, Republican Michigan State Rep. Jim Lower, by solid double digits.

The results are almost assuredly and solely due to Amash’ radical stance demanding that President Trump be impeached – not for committing high crimes and misdemeanors but – because he had allegedly “violated the public trust.”

If that’s the standard then Amash should be recalled for pretending to be a supporter of conservative causes, but we digress.

Lower announced his challenge based on Amash’s calls for impeachment.

“Congressman Justin Amash tweets … calling for President Trump’s impeachment show how out of touch he is with the truth and how out of touch he is with people he represents,” Lower said. “He must be replaced and I am going to do it.”

This poll suggests the people in Michigan’s third district agree.

Amash Just Sided With Democrats … Again

Rather than conducting a self-analysis of what initially gave him a strong record with conservatives, Amash has continued his lone Republican wolf crusade against the President.

On Wednesday, he joined the resistance party in voting to hold Attorney General William Barr and Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross in contempt of Congress.

This latest battle stems from the pairs unwillingness to comply with frivolous subpoenas issued by the House Oversight Committee, seeking information on the Trump administration’s controversial decision to add a question on citizenship to the 2020 census.

Betrayal of Conservatism

The contempt vote may be a sign that Amash is siding with Democrats, but other recent actions have shown he is simply betraying his conservative values.

Earlier this year, he sided with Democrats by claiming President Trump’s national emergency declaration to secure funding for the border wall was unconstitutional.

He then remarkably voted with the opposition party in support of allowing illegal immigrants the right to vote.

Amash, earlier this week, walked away from the conservative House Freedom Caucus when it became clear their political goals were no longer aligned.

House Freedom Caucus member and Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy questioned Amash and his conservative record.

“He’s been in Congress quite some time,” he began. “He votes more with Nancy Pelosi than he ever votes with me. It’s a question whether he’s even in our Republican conference as a whole.”

The polls indicate Republican voters don’t even view it as a question any longer. Lower appeared on Laura Ingraham’s show last night asking for the President himself to interject his presence in the race and support his challenge to Amash. The irony will be rich if it’s Trump’s calls to oust Amash that wins the day.
