Mitch McConnell Says Manchin ‘Certainly Welcome’ To Join GOP

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell revealed he would “certainly welcome” Senator Joe Manchin to the GOP following the Democrat’s announcement that he was a firm ‘no’ vote on President Biden’s ‘Build Back Better’ social spending spree.

Manchin has been attacked by his fellow Democrats for months, with his recent announcement bringing the most severe vitriol.

McConnell made the comments during an appearance on “The Guy Benson Show” podcast Monday.

The Kentucky Republican praised Manchin’s announcement sinking the bill by calling it “an exciting thing to hear.”

“It was a great shot in the arm for the country,” McConnell praised. “I think it’s exactly what the country needed at this particular time.”

Mitch McConnell Opens His Arms To Manchin In The GOP

Senator Joe Manchin announced his decision over the weekend in an interview on Fox News.

“My Democratic colleagues in Washington are determined to dramatically reshape our society in a way that leaves our country even more vulnerable to the threats we face,” Manchin said.

The statement quickly drew the ire of many progressives in the Democrat Party, including Representative Ilhan Omar (D-MN) who called his reasons for voting against the party “complete bullshit.”

“I was shocked at the vitriol,” McConnell said of the atmosphere on the other side of the aisle. “And basically it seemed to me that they were calling Senator Manchin a liar. I think that was not smart.”

“He doesn’t fit well over there, but that is a decision ultimately that he has to make,” he continued, remarking on the possibility of Manchin switching parties.

“We certainly welcome him to join us if he was so inclined.”

Flip The House And Senate

Mitch McConnell expressed optimism that Manchin’s squashing of the Build Back Better bill could lead to a Republican majority come 2023.

“The American people have seen what true liberalism looks like,” McConnell explained. “Actually, I’d say more accurately what socialism looks like, and we’re headed toward a very significant midterm election next year.”

“And we should, in all likelihood, flip both the House and the Senate to the Republican Party.”

West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin was one of only two Democrats earlier this month who voted to repeal President Biden’s federal vaccine mandate for private businesses with 100 or more employees.

Manchin had said of the largely symbolic vote at the time that the federal government “should incentivize, not penalize, private employers whose responsibility it is to protect their employees from COVID-19.”

Manchin was just about the only Democrat willing to applaud pro-American lines during President Donald Trump’s various State of the Union addresses.

Manchin, despite being glared at by others in his party, eventually relented, joining Republicans in several ovations for President Trump while his Democrat colleagues continued to pout.

He would later rip the Democrat members of Congress for being “disrespectful.”
