House Votes to Defund Planned Parenthood, What Will Obama Do?

The House of Representatives passed a bill defunding Planned Parenthood for one year as it investigates the organization’s harvesting and trafficking in baby parts of children they abort. The likely illegal and certainly unethical practices have been exposed in multiple videos released by the Center for Medical Progress.

The bill would redirect the $500 million of taxpayer funds for women’s healthcare to Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC) throughout the county while the investigation is ongoing. There are 20 FQHCs for every one Planned Parenthood, so women would have greater access to services while this money is redirected.

This bill would allow Planned Parenthood’s funding to be restored if they agree not to perform abortions while the investigation is ongoing. This alleviates the concern that they would be trafficking in baby parts.

This effective, yet reasonable bill has bipartisan support. Democrats Dan Lipinski (D-Ill.) and Collin Peterson voted in favor of the measure.

Tennessee Congresswoman and nurse Diane Black sponsored the bill. She pointed out to Fox News that women’s healthcare is not being taken away. Black also pointed out that even those who support abortion rights should be appalled at these videos and question the practice of amending an abortion in order to get more profitable tissue.

President Obama has threatened to veto this bill. Even though this a reasonable measure in reaction to the horrific practices that were exposed, Obama firmly stands with his campaign donors at Planned Parenthood and their harvesting of baby parts. He believes we should not stop taxpayer funding of baby parts trafficking during the investigation.

The bill now awaits action in the Senate. How will you ask your Senators to vote on this bill? Please join the discussion and share this on Facebook and Twitter.
