Full Steam Ahead But…. Currently No State Has Met 14-Day Drop In Cases For Reopening

Instead of trying to play political gotcha, I’m getting so frustrated with the lamestream media because they aren’t addressing our concerns. The result? Many Americans are half-informed, and the other half is filled with conspiracy.

I just wish somebody would start asking the right question.

LAMESTREAM MEDIA NOT DOING THEIR JOB

They keep asking what governors are going to do if they start to reopen, and the number of cases goes up? We already know the number of reported cases is way understated from the results of the Stanford, USC, and New York studies. We also know that everyone is testing more, so the number of cases is going to go up no matter what the states do.

The right question is, “What are you going to do if you reopen, and the number of hospitalizations goes up?” That’s the only thing that should trigger a pullback on economic activity. These people are Ivy League-educated. Why can’t they figure out the right question to ask?

AMERICANS CONFUSED ABOUT LOCKDOWN PURPOSE

People don’t understand. The reason for the lockdown was to keep hospitals from becoming overburdened and collapsing. It was not meant to end the virus, but just slow the spread, so everyone didn’t get sick with it all at once.

The 14-day guidelines, which President Donald Trump announced April 16, “make sense,” New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said during a media briefing Tuesday while acknowledging the economic dilemma.

“We want to reopen, but we want to do it without infecting more people or overwhelming the hospital system,” Cuomo said.

The number of cases states report each day doesn’t necessarily reflect patients who were diagnosed within the past 24 hours. There is often a backlog of test results, and some infections aren’t identified right away.

Still, daily case counts continue to rise in many states. And governors are struggling with how to balance what’s best for the economy with what’s best for public health.

“It’s a delicate conversation,” said Cameron Wolfe, an associate professor of medicine at Duke University School of Medicine. “We are literally trying to find ways of coexisting with COVID that doesn’t lead us back into a secondary surge in cases.”

CONTAINING THE OUTBREAK SHOULD BE TOP PRIORITY

In comparison to other countries, we cannot expect to succeed economically any better or faster if we don’t contain the outbreak as well. By ignoring the targeted 14-day drop, we risk prolonging the recovery or even reversing the trend by increasing the cases and hospitalization/death rates. And in the process risking another shutdown and another, or worse economic downturn. This is why people fear it’s too early.

Just because businesses are opening doesn’t mean customers will be flocking back. Probably most of these small businesses are going to continue for some time to have a hard time making ends meet with the reduced sales.

QUARANTINING HEALTHY PEOPLE WASN’T BEST IDEA

Running the risk of sounding contradictory, let me also say that I think that it makes no sense to quarantine healthy people. It makes a lot more sense to get medical help early for those who test positive rather than waiting for them to gasp for breath.

You have to test everyone for COVID-19. You have to test everyone for antibodies. You have to implement contact tracing. These have been the requirements since DAY ONE. Yet, here we are over two months later, and our layers of governments are still beating around the bush, trying to figure out how to restart the country while doing as little as possible and cutting corners.

Shutting down the best economy in the world will have dire consequences for many years to come, so let’s get back to work!
