Christian Star Mark Wahlberg Makes Sad Announcement About His Acting Career

Mark Wahlberg

The devoutly Christian Mark Wahlberg is one of the most popular stars working in Hollywood today. That’s why it’s come as bad news to his millions of fans that his days in acting may be numbered.

Wahlberg Talks Leaving Acting

After decades of success in Hollywood, Wahlberg shocked everyone in a new interview when he revealed that he sees his days in acting as limited.

“Well, I’m certainly working harder now than ever,” Wahlberg explained, according to Fox News. “Certain businesses, you kind of build them, pass them on or you exit. Hopefully my kids, we’ll see what their interests are, but I don’t think that I’ll be acting that much longer at the pace I am now.”

“That’s for sure. Because that’s the most difficult thing,” he continued.

Wahlberg shares four children with his wife Rhea Durham, who he’s been married to since 2009.

After getting his start in the entertainment world as a musician with Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch, Wahlberg successfully made the transition to acting, first in television and then in film.

“I started producing out of necessity,” Wahlberg said. “The reason why I started producing was because I didn’t want to sit around waiting for Brad Pitt or Tom Cruise or whoever was already established before me and were the guys at the time, and Leo [DiCaprio]…to go and pass on a movie until I could get my hands on it.”

“So I was always proactive in trying to find material, right, and things that I could produce, that I knew were right for me, and create my own destiny,” he continued. “You know, create a vehicle and an opportunity and a path for me, to get to where I wanted to be. And have control. Having creative control, because the second your name is above the title, you know, you reap the rewards of the success, but you also bear the brunt of the failure…If I’m going to be in that position, I’d rather be behind the wheel.”

Wahlberg’s Boogie Nights Regrets

Wahlberg went on to say that one example of him not being in control of his career came when he starred as the porn star Dirk Diggler in the 1997 movie Boogie Nights.

“When I first heard about the film, the subject matter was not appealing to me. I came from the whole Marky Mark thing, pulling down my pants, Calvin Klein underwear — I didn’t know if this was just the next level of exploiting me and now all of a sudden we have to lose the underwear,” he recalled. “My agents kept pushing me. So I read the first 25, 30 pages, and I kind of put it down. I was like this could be something great, or this could be absolutely terrible.”

Though Boogie Nights was a huge success, Wahlberg has previously said that he regrets starring in it.

“I just always hope that God is a movie fan and also forgiving, because I’ve made some poor choices in my past,” Wahlberg said in 2017, according to Indiewire. “Boogie Nights up there at the top of the list.”

“I don’t want to compromise my artistic integrity or choices based on my faith or my family, but I also have other things to consider, and being a little bit older and a little wiser, the idea of having to explain that movie and the reason behind it to my kids is another issue,” he continued.

Wahlberg May Not Be Done Yet

Despite indicating that he may soon retire from acting, Wahlberg suggested in his new interview that he might not be done with the entertainment industry quite yet.

“Working with some of the other great talents. Working with the next batch of great talent,” he said when asked what is next for him.

While we can’t argue with Wahlberg’s reasoning for wanting to potentially leave acting behind one day, we hope that he reconsiders in the future. He’s one of the only openly Christian stars in Hollywood, so his voice in the entertainment world is needed now more than ever!
