Chicago’s radically liberal mayor Lori Lightfoot posted a video to Twitter on Thursday that has quickly blown up in her face, as she is being hit with tons of backlash for it.

The clip was clearly meant to be a humorous take on the alleged win of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, but it backfired on Lightfoot when it fell completely flat.

Lightfoot’s Bizarre Video

The bizarre video opens with Lightfoot sleeping on the couch, seemingly having a bad dream. As the screen changes to color from black and white, Lightfoot suddenly wakes up and puts her hand on her forehead as a copy of “Stephen Hawking’s Universe” lays face-down on her chest.

“Thank God! Science is back, baby!” the liberal mayor explains with relief. She then pats a globe next to her as she adds, “And the earth is round — not flat.”

The footage then switches to a doctor who offers some advice in the most condescending way possible, saying, “Washing your hands does work, social distancing does matter, and wearing a face covering does help protect all of us. I do love science!”

“The new administration’s COVID-19 task force ushers in a new day for science and evidence-based policy-making,” Lightfoot wrote alongside the video, presumably referring to Biden’s plans. “As a city, we look forward to working together to ensure the health of all Chicagoans.”

Twitter Users Rip Lightfoot

Unfortunately for Lightfoot, however, Twitter users have since been relentlessly ripping her over the video.

“Seriously one of the stupidest things I’ve seen!” one user noted, with another saying, “This is embarrassing.”

“I’m sorry but you just don’t have what it takes for SNL. Best of luck in your future endeavors,” another commenter said, with a fourth writing, “Hey @chicagosmayor, you wanna quit doing stupid s**t like this and actually clean up your city?? There’s a reason they call Chicago Chi-raq… You are despicable.”

Though Lightfoot claims to love science-based COVID-19 policies, she is quick to avoid them when it comes to her own life. She showed this earlier this year, when she shut down Chicago hair salons and then promptly got a haircut.

“I’m the public face of this city. I’m on national media, and I’m out in the public eye,” Lightfoot told the Chicago Tribune at the time. “I’m a person who, I take my personal hygiene very seriously. As I said, I felt like I needed to have a haircut. I’m not able to do that myself, so I got a haircut. You want to talk more about that?”

“Rules for thee but not for me,” indeed.
