Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot Defends Ban On Protesters On Her Block

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot continues to defend the ban on protesters from gathering on the block where she lives as a matter of personal safety for her and her family.

The Democratic mayor says increased security is necessary due to threats she receives, but did not explain further.

Mayor Lightfoot on banning protesters on her block: ‘I make no apologies whatsoever for that’

“I think that residents of this city, understanding the nature of the threats that we are receiving on a daily basis, on a daily basis, understand I have a right to make sure that my home is secure,” the Chicago Tribune reported Lightfoot saying.

Lightfoot said that those who complained about how Chicago police protected previous mayors’ homes, like Rahm Emanuel, were being unfair because, “This is a different time like no other.”

“I’m not going to make any excuses for the fact that, given the threats I have personally received, given the threats to my home and my family, I’m going to do everything I can to make sure they’re protected,” Lightfoot said.

“I make no apologies whatsoever for that,” she added.

Police officers were instructed to arrest anyone protesting near Lightfoot’s home

Chicago police banned protests close to the mayor’s home after massive protests formed in the wake of the killing of George Floyd back in May by Minneapolis police. Officers were ordered to arrest anyone caught protesting near Mayor Lightfoot’s home.

This directive has led to more than 100 arrests in recent weeks after looting occurred downtown on August 10. Mayor Lightfoot described the looting as a “planned attack.”

Pro-BLM Politicians Get Protection – You Don’t

Are you starting to get the picture?

These politicians who have supported and encouraged the riots believe they should be protected, but not the regular people.

These politicians that call for “defunding the police” get extra police protection for themselves.

You get to fend for yourself while violent crimes skyrocket.
