It seems that Black Friday has turned into Black-Eye Friday in some states with the massive fights shared on social media. But most don’t even realize how Black Friday came into existence.

I have never, ever been out of the house for Black Friday. First off, it seems as if the people are sleeping overnight in tents to get into the store, and that’s not me. Secondly, why stand in the cold waiting to get into a store when you can purchase the same item online? I don’t get it.

Still, some people like it. So when you’re eating Thanksgiving dinner with the family, impress them with these facts about the famous shopping holiday. I am sure they will be in awe of your new found knowledge.

Since 1924, the Friday after Thanksgiving has marked the start of the holiday shopping season. Now “Black Friday” is an American phenomenon where shoppers wait in line for hours, some for days, to get their hands on holiday gifts at bargain prices. Retailers lure shoppers with steep door-buster discounts, limited quantities, and by opening early and closing late.
