Attorney General Bill Barr has slammed universal mail-in voting in a fiery interview with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer, saying that proposal is “playing with fire” in this contentious election.
While President Trump and the rest of his team has spoken often of the issue, the usually mild-mannered Barr was in rare form and fired up.
Speaking to CNN’s Wolf Blitzer, Barr noted that America has never seen “the kind of widespread use of mail-in ballots that has been proposed,” but only “absentee ballots from people who request them from a specific address.”
Barr gave Blitzer a run-down of why the notion of universal mail-in voting is absurd and rife for rampant fraud.
“What we’re talking about [now] is mailing them to everyone on the voter list, when everyone knows those voter lists are inaccurate,” Barr explained.
“People who should get them don’t get them, which has been one of the major complaints in states that have tried this in municipal elections, and people who get them are not the right people! They’re people who have replaced the previous occupant… Sometimes multiple ballots come to the same address, with a whole generations of occupants. You think that’s the way to run a vote?”
Blitzer tried to convince Barr that everything would be fine, as “we haven’t seen widespread fraud,” but Barr shot back, noting that that is only the case because we haven’t tried universal mail-in voting as a nation yet.
“This is playing with fire. We’re a very closely divided country, and if people have to have confidence in the results of the election and the legitimacy of the government, and people are trying to change the rules to this methodology, which as a matter of logic, is very open to fraud and coersion, is reckless and dangerous,” Barr continued.
Of course, Blitzer is either uninformed, or worse. We have seen horrific examples of widespread fraud, and recently.
An entire election in New Jersey was thrown out due to fraud, and a judge had to call a new one.
In Iowa, 50,000 ballots were recalled when, as a judge indicated in his injunction, the County Auditor “violated a “clear directive” from Iowa’s Secretary of State, Paul Pate, which informed county officials that voter forms must be sent off anonymously in order to protect the identities of potential voters.”
After getting worked over by Barr, Blitzer took the line that the coronavirus pandemic was so deadly, mail-in voting makes sense for the vulnerable, rather than elderly citizens potentially catching the virus while waiting in long lines to go the polls in person.
“The appropriate way to deal with that is for arrangements at the polls to protect people, which can be done,” Barr said, adding that “people who have particular conditions and are vulnerable can get an absentee ballot… I’ve voted by absentee ballot, not by mail, I actually went to the office to cast my vote, but absentee ballots are fine.”
Barr is exactly right to describe this as “playing with fire.” We already have Democrat operatives claiming that voter fraud is the norm, not the exception, when it comes to mail-in voting. If the Democrats are allowed to tilt this election in their favor, we are in deep, deep trouble, to say the least.
