Biden Jokes He Would Resign Under Pretense Of Illness If He And Kamala Fundamentally Disagreed

In an interview, Joe Biden joked that if he and Kamala Harris ever had a disagreement over morals, he would feign illness and resign.

“I’ll Develop Some Disease And I’ll Have To Resign”

Biden joined his Vice Presidential pick Senator Harris in an interview with CNN’s Jake Tapper.

Biden told Tapper that he and Harris are “simpatico on our philosophy of government, simpatico on how we want to attack, approach these issues that we’re facing,” implying a generally aligned political strategy.

The potential president described how a theoretical Biden-Harris administration would handle internal agreements.

“When we disagree, it’ll be just like – so far, it’s been just like when Barack and I did,” Biden continued. “It’s in private, she’ll say ‘I think we should do A, B, C, and D,’ and I’ll say, ‘I like A, I don’t like B and C,’ and let’s go, okay.”

“Like I told Barack, if I reach something where there is a fundamental disagreement we have based on moral principle, I’ll develop some disease and say I’ll have to resign,” Biden joked.

Biden then downplayed any possibility of a fundamental disagreement, saying, “We discussed at length our views on foreign policy, on domestic policy, on intelligence.”

The former Vice President then went on to praise Harris’s record working within the Senate.

Trump Warns Kamala Should Not Be Let In “Through The Back Door”

The comment from Biden, although flippant, once again raised eyebrows about the possibility of a Harris presidency before 2024 if Biden resigns after he is inaugurated.

There is no evidence to suggest that any sort of plan like that exists, but many have speculated about the possibility.

Biden would enter office as the oldest president ever.

During a campaign rally in Wisconsin in September, President Trump warned about the potential for a Harris presidency coming “through the back door” after Biden stepped down.

“If a woman is going to become the first president of the United States, it can’t be her,” President Trump told the crowd.

“That would rip our country apart. This is not what people want. And she comes in through the back door.”

CNN pundits in November speculated that Biden would only serve one term as President, leaving Harris to be the frontrunner for 2024.

“This is a unique political situation,” said David Axelrod, a former senior advisor to Obama.

“Because never has a vice president entered office on the first day as the, kind of, presumed frontrunner for the nomination four years later.”
