Michigan state Rep. Bettie Cook Scott (D-Detroit) has been forced to issue an apology after she repeatedly used racial slurs to describe her Democratic opponent in the primary race for state Sen. District 1.
Multiple people accused Scott, who is black, of calling state Rep. Stephanie Chang (D-Detroit), who is of Taiwanese descent, “ching-chang” and “ching-chong” to voters outside polling precincts during last Tuesday’s election. She also allegedly called one of Chang’s campaign volunteers an “immigrant,” saying, “you don’t belong here” and “I want you out of my country.”
If all that isn’t abhorrent enough, Scott reportedly also shamed Chang’s husband, who is black, for marrying outside his race:
Ms. Chang’s husband, who said he overheard Ms. Cook’s screed outside a precinct on the east side of Detroit, said the representative shamed him, a black man, for marrying Ms. Chang.
“I … asked her not to speak about my wife in that manner,” he told Metro Times. “At that time she said to the voter that ‘these immigrants from China are coming over and taking our community from us.’ Further, she said it ‘disgusts her seeing black people holding signs for these Asians and not supporting their own people.’”
So much for the Civil Rights movement.
Unsurprisingly, the outrage against Scott’s disgusting bigotry was swift. A coalition of 19 community groups condemned her comments in a statement, saying, “No elected official or candidate for office, regardless of political affiliation, should use stereotypical imagery or language. The use of these stereotypes is counter to the progress our country has made over past decades to encourage respect for all communities.”
On Thursday, Scott finally issued an apology – but the damage is done. Chang won the primary with 49 percent of the vote, compared to Scott’s 11 percent.
Furthermore, Scott’s reprehensible comments are yet more proof that liberals are incapable of separating identity from politics. They’d rather group people by race, gender, and creed and prescribe them ideologies than allow anyone to think for themselves or, God forbid, intermingle with anyone who thinks – or in Scott’s case, looks – differently from their assigned group. And that’s truly deplorable.

Don't you know the new old ideology that blacks can not be racists because they have no power. Ergo they can not commit hate crimes, or racist acts etc. That is BLM apparently this racist thought she could get away with it. To assume that blacks can not be racist is to deny they are human. We all have the capacity to hate and be racists, it is how we deal with it that makes us better people, its just some people never will become better. If this black woman resorted to racist talk all I can think to write is, Thanks Obama, your time in South Africa reflects..
Stephany Chang was the liberal in that contest, not the small minded woman the author labeled liberal for purposes of sustaining the derogatory narrative. Not every Democrat is a liberal. People have many reasons for competing in the Democratic big tent. In my neighborhood, if you want to win a congressional seat, you have to be a Democrat. Our district was gerrymandered by the Republican legislature after their 2010 win. They put all the Democrats in the metro area in one district, and kept control of both the Michigan House and Senate ever since.
This article seemed like good journalism until the very last paragraph. It looks like the propaganda editor felt he had to make sure we draw the "right" conclusions from what happened. Democrats are not prone to overgeneralization any more than Republicans, but rather much less from my experience. Trying to extrapolate from that one individual to conclude "they" and "liberals" are all like that is the kind of thinking that perpetuates group bias and prejudice. The identity politics of the Democratic party are all about sticking up for the under class, the groups who have been victimized by prejudices, not seeking dominance for their own. Recognizing racism, no matter which race, is important to liberals and Democrats of all stripes. To be liberal means you believe in judging people by their behavior and character, not superficial characteristics. State Rep Betty Cook Scott does not represent the character and values most of us in the Democratic Party hold, and now that her character flaws have been made public, I am quite sure she will not find a place of leadership in the Party going forward. She only managed 11% that race. Instead of trying so hard to demean and slander Democrats as terrible people, clean up your own mess. Your president is a toxic time bomb. There is enough public information to know he conspired with the Russians to win his power. As evidenced by the public record, he is dishonest, self serving and venal. We all know he is unfit for duty, so why do you ( the editors or this partisan propaganda outlet ) continue to support him by twisting every factoid that lends itself to your narrative.
You're excused from racial slurs if you're black. It only works one way.
Are 'Ching-Chang' and 'ching-chong' the Chinese version of the 'N' word?
There is no racist like a 'black' racist.
Black Democrats (especially the membership of the Congressional Black Caucus) are - as a group - the most racist of racists - everything they do and say is based in racism!
It seems an impossibility to get the 'boon' out of many of them.
I don't think that I've ever voted because of color.
I DID vote against the brown clown...because of his lack of almost any work experience. Terrible
eight years, for racial integrity and leadership.
President Trump 2020 MAGA !!!
Hypocrisy from the Left? Naw... Can't be. Say it ain't so.
I THINK THAT BETTY COOK SCOTT GOT WHAT SHE DESERVED!
Multiple people accused Scott, who is black, of calling state Rep. She also allegedly called one of Chang’s campaign volunteers an “immigrant,” saying, “you don’t belong here” and “I want you out of my country.” Now just wait a minute. I thought Democrats were FOR illegal immigration and getting whitie out of the U.S. Don't tell me they changed without telling us ... this is getting confusing.
"Further, she said it ‘disgusts her seeing black people holding signs for these Asians and not supporting their own people.’”"
