Trump’s Travel Ban Takes Effect Tonight at 8 PM Eastern

The numerous legal hurdles that President Donald Trump’s travel ban faced initially turned out to be no match for the man who promised we’d all be tired of winning.

Back in May, the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals struck down his travel ban, leading many to believe that it was dead on arrival. Hillary Clinton tweeted out “3-0,” as all three judges on the Court ruled against the ban.

That tweet didn’t age well, because when the Supreme Court had their say, it was 9-0 in The Donald’s favor.

If the “resistance” succeeded in anything it was delaying the implementation of the travel ban for a few months, but that’s all. The ban will now be extended to immigrants and refugees from six Muslim-majority nations (Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen) unless they can prove a relationship with a U.S. person or entity, and it takes effect at 8 pm EST today.

Those from the six countries are prohibited from entering the United States for 90 days — while refugees are blocked from arriving in the country for the next 120 days.

There have been no major problems reported at airports around the world, in the hours since the Trump administration announced new guidelines for visa applicants from six mostly Muslim nations.

Travelers will be required to show they have a close family or business tie to the United States.

Visas that have already been approved will not be revoked. That should help avoid the chaos that accompanied the initial travel ban, when travelers with previously-approved visas were kept off flights or denied entry on arrival in the United States.

The only problem I have with the ban is that it’s temporary. If restricting travel with these counties is necessary for the purpose of national security, why stop it at 90-120 days? Why not make it permanent until we squash the threat of terrorism for good?
