GOP frontrunner Donald Trump packed the house aboard the U.S.S. Wisconsin in Norfolk, Virginia, this weekend to propose a series of reforms to the U.S. Department of Veteran’s Affairs. He delivered one of the most passionate speeches of the campaign season so far, revealing the specifics of his plan before releasing the documents online a few hours later.
In the policy paper on Trump’s website, the Republican presidential candidate railed against the current state of the VA, calling it “absolutely unacceptable” and proposed three principle tenets of his reform plan that he feels will ameliorate many of the problems veterans currently face with the scandal-scarred agency.
Trump’s plan to change the current VA system included some of these specifics:
- All veterans eligible for VA health care would be able to bring their veteran’s ID card to any doctor or care facility that accepts Medicare to get the care they need immediately.
- Funding would be increased for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), traumatic brain injury, and suicide prevention services.
- Funding would be increased for job training and placement services, educational support, and business loans.
- Every VA hospital in the country will be equipped with OBGYN and other women’s health services, while permitting women veterans to choose a different OBGYN in their community using their veteran’s ID card.
- Firing the corrupt and incompetent VA executives.
- Accelerating and expanding investments in state-of-the-art-technology to deliver best-in-class care quickly and effectively.
- Hiring more veterans to care for veterans.
- Embedding satellite VA clinics in rural and other underserved areas to ensure veterans have easy access to care.
So now the Donald has approached our illegal Mexican problem with viable solutions. He’s proposed a fair approach to tax reform that doesn’t gouge anyone. Now an excellent suggestion to improve our VA system.
Trump seems to be on the right track on all of the issues so far.
