Trump Kept Promise on Ending Obama’s Refugee Program

Barack Obama greatly expanded America’s refugee resettlement program in the wake of the Syrian refugee crisis, setting a goal of taking in 10,000 refugees a year.

While it’s a relatively small number (compared to what some European nations took in), keep in mind that many of those admitted don’t speak English, and given how poor of a country Syria is, it’s a guarantee that many are low-skilled and will toil in low-paying jobs, thus requiring permanent assistance from the government.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions (then senator) estimated in 2015 that the lifetime cost of Obama’s Syrian refugee resettlement program would be a hefty $55 billion if allowed to play out.

Given that the costs of resettling Syrian refugees in countries bordering Syria are roughly one-tenth the cost of resettling one in the West, one would think that if we were intent on helping refugees, we’d resettle ten times as many in countries where they can actually speak the language and share the culture.

By 2016, a record number of Muslim refugees had entered the U.S. Obama had a record number of Muslim refugees in 2016 (38,901), making up roughly half the refugee population admitted last year. Muslim refugees from Syria were admitted far out of proportion to their share of Syria’s population.

Just 64 Christian Syrian refugees were admitted to the U.S. in 2016, or about 0.5 percent in a country where 10 percent are Christian. A bizarre ratio for sure, especially given that the treatment of Christians is especially bad among the warring Islamist factions in Syria.

Trump has, for the most part, fulfilled his campaign promise of ending Obama’s refugee resettlement program as we know it. This year, we’re on track to have 99% fewer refugees resettled than Obama’s last year in office.

Below is charted refugees admitted annually:

This was one of President Trump’s key campaign promises, and he kept it. The American people should be glad to know they have a president finally putting the needs of the American people ahead of the rest of the world.

Do you support Trump’s decision to end Obama’s refugee resettlement program? Let us know why or why not in the comments section below.

  • Totally support Trump’s decision to end the refugee program. These people would be better off in neighboring countries where they speak their language than coming to a country so vastly different. I’m also fed up with my taxpayer money going to support refugee’s.

  • Absolute support. The high cost of resettlement as well as requiring welfare benefits are not helping us.

  • Many of the Syrians said that they would rather live in Syria and any where else. If Assad would not try to kill them that disagree with him.

  • I do NOT disagree with ANYTHING our President does! Every decision he has made is 100% for American citizens! If the Left Liberal GOOF balls had been willing to MAKE America great again,
And HELP him instead of putting "SALT in his Tank", we would be far ahead! To AID in President Trumps VISION! The only reason they are suffering from hate-laced apoplexy is because they had planned to get Harridan Hil in our White House then NO criminal corrupt actions would ever seen daylight! 0'Bama was suppose to fulfill the goal of handing us over to his M.E. brothers! Their only hope to give the flat disk worshipers to them after HIS failure, was to get HER in! Then GOD took back his rightful place and all AICH broke loose! If we had the eyes to see the invisible battle between good and evil, NO one could doubt Gods power! He never loses control, but sometimes he gives "charge" to those who never know it was Gods plan, NOT their own power! NOTHING takes place in our universe that he doesn't allow! Thank you GOD for that!

  • Obama opened the flood gates and even sent advertisements to welcome one and all to come to the USA and share in the wealth; send all your kids here and we will raise them for you; no charge!

  • Imagine my disappointment, I misread -- "Trump has, for the most part, fulfilled his campaign promise of ending Obama’s refugee resettlement program as we know it." -- I thought Trump promised to END OBAMA!!!!
