Jimmy Carter Endorses Donald Trump for a Nobel Prize After Success in North Korea

Former Jimmy Carter is no fan of Republicans and supported Hillary Clinton during the 2016 presidential campaign.

But now Carter has announced something extraordinary. If peace can be achieved between North and South Korea, Carter is endorsing the idea of the Nobel prize committee honoring President Donald J. Trump for his historic efforts! Carter himself is a Nobel laureate. (RELATED: 18 Lawmakers Officially Nominated Trump for a Nobel Prize).

As The Hill reports:

Former President Carter said President Trump ought to receive the Nobel Peace Prize if he is able to strike a deal to deescalate tensions on the Korean Peninsula.

“If President Trump is successful in getting a peace treaty that’s acceptable to both sides with North Korea, I think he certainly ought to be considered for the Nobel Peace Prize,” Carter said on Politico’s “Off Message” podcast.

“I think it would be a worthy and a momentous accomplishment that no previous president has been able to realize.”

The comments from Carter, a Nobel laureate himself, come weeks before Trump is expected to travel to Singapore to meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

If the encounter comes to fruition, it will be the first such meeting between a sitting U.S. president and North Korean leader in history.

North Korea will remain dangerous and unpredictable. But Trump deserves major credit for the release of three American prisoners and the publicly announced plans to dismantle a nuclear test site.

Technically, the Korean War has gone on for 60 years. And only on Trump’s watch is an end in sight.

Unfortunately, tensions between North Korea and South Korea have flared recently, after Pyongyang suspended talks with South Korea over joint military drills with the U.S. The North claimed was a rehearsal for an invasion. North Korea also threatened to cancel the Trump meeting over U.S. demands for dismantling the country’s nukes. (RELATED: North Korea Threatens to Cancel Peace Summit Over U.S. Military Drills).

But Trump literally wrote the book on negotiation tactics, and he’s ready to play hardball.
