Trump Administration Orders Staff to Leave U.S. Embassy in Havana, Cuba

Mark this down as another Obama Administration fail.

The much-hyped opening of Cuba by President Obama may be may be coming to a close. President Trump has just ordered 60% of the staff at the U.S. embassy in Havana to leave.

That’s not all. The Trump Administration has reportedly ceased issuing visas to the country.

These latest directives come on the heels of a mysterious medical attack on U.S. embassy staff. The cause of the attack and subsequent illness felt by embassy employees is still unknown.

The Trump Administration isn’t taking any chances, however. These moves are designed to ensure the safety of U.S. personnel. And it shouldn’t be forgotten that an attack on any U.S. government employee is an attack on our nation as a whole.

It was always a risk for President Obama to re-open Cuba, and lift U.S. sanctions on the country. The still-communist-controlled nation is no friend of the U.S. But President Obama looked past all of the human rights abuse from the Castro regime, and wanted something big to cement his legacy.

I wonder how the sick embassy employees feel about Obama’s gambit now.

A few months ago, President Trump announced that he was going to roll back Obama’s easing of relations of Cuba.

It looks like this attack confirmed the president’s suspicion. Until we get to the bottom of what afflicted the staff in Havana, it’s better to be safe and bring those employees home. President Trump isn’t looking to bolster his legacy. His priority is keeping our country and our people safe. And that might include ending something Obama thought would guarantee his place in the history books.
