This doesn’t look good.

Moments ago, President Trump mentioned that the much-celebrated peace summit between the U.S. and North Korea may be delayed.

The breaking news comes via Axios:

President Trump on Tuesday said that his summit with North Korea’s Kim Jong-un may not go ahead as planned, adding that if the June 12 date does not hold, “maybe it will happen later.” He told reporters: “We’re moving along. We’ll see what happens.”

The comments came as South Korean President Moon Jae-in arrived at the White House to meet with Trump about the planned summit, which is scheduled for three weeks from today. The buildup to what would be an historic summit sparked conversations about a long-sought breakthrough with North Korea, and even a Nobel Prize for Trump. If the summit collapses, the U.S. and North Korea could suddenly revert to a high-stakes standoff.

You can see Trump’s comments below:

The news of the past week suggests that the peace summit may be in danger. We reported yesterday that Trump was having second thoughts overall about the summit, and was consulting with allies on whether or not to go ahead with it. (RELATED: Trump Considering Dropping Out of North Korea Summit).

The week before, the North Korean regime was posturing, issuing a statement that it was considering pulling out from the summit due to ongoing American military drills in the region. (RELATED: North Korea Threatens to Cancel Peace Summit Over U.S. Military Drills).

The historic summit with North Korea was always going to be a challenge. Trump has privately expressed his reservations over it. But, if you look at Trump’s history, and the things he has written about angling deals to ensure a good outcome, Trump’s threaten of delaying the summit makes sense. Perhaps this is just a move to throw North Korean leader Kim Jong Un off guard, just as his regime did to the U.S. last week.

We’ll have to wait and see.
