Trump Threatens to Declassify Documents Related to Democrat Opponents

Since the Democrats won the House of Representatives in the 2018 midterm elections, Democrats have begun to list all the investigations they want to undertake against President Trump. The President did a tit-for-tat rejoinder to Democrats, threatening to declassify potentially damaging documents if they continue to harass his administration.

Trump warns Democrats

With Democrats set to take control of the House of Representatives next year, the President is concerned that upstart liberal lawmakers will purposefully disrupt his agenda in an effort to score political points.

The issue weighing on everyone’s mind is, of course, the prospect of impeachment. (RELATED: Pelosi Admits Dem-Controlled House Would Seek To Impeach Trump.)

Trump isn’t one to sit idly by, expecting an assault on his office and character. He’s pre-emptively fighting back, and he’s threatening to use a devastating weapon.

The threat of declassification

The New York Post reports:

In a wide-ranging, exclusive interview with The Post, President Trump said Wednesday that if House Democrats launched probes into his administration — which he called “presidential harassment” — they’d pay a heavy price.

“If they go down the presidential harassment track, if they want go and harass the president and the administration, I think that would be the best thing that would happen to me. I’m a counter-puncher and I will hit them so hard they’d never been hit like that,” he said during a 36-minute Oval Office sitdown.

So what would Trump declassify? Documents related to the Mueller probe and the Obama administration’s deliberate attempt to set his campaign up. More from the report:

The commander-in-chief said he could declassify FISA warrant applications and other documents from Robert Mueller’s probe — and predicted the disclosure would expose the FBI, the Justice Department and the Clinton campaign as being in cahoots to set him up.

“I think that would help my campaign. If they want to play tough, I will do it. They will see how devastating those pages are.”

As president, Trump knows how damaging such a declassification would be. Some GOP lawmakers have hinted that a full-scale declassification would totally undermine the ongoing Mueller probe, proving it’s a charade. Of course, the President has access to all types of dirty secrets when it comes to his opponents. Trump knows way more about sitting Democrat lawmakers than they do him. The potential secrets he could unleash could easily silence a few dissenters.

Trump’s history of declassification

Trump already declassified a particular tranche of documents related to the Russian probe earlier this year. The move highlighted the improper steps the FBI used to first begin spying on Trump under the Obama administration. (RELATED: Here’s What You Need To Know About Trump’s Declassification Order.)

Trump has already proven he’s willing to use all the tools at his disposable to defeat his enemies. Democrats should take his threat seriously.
