Texas Governor Greg Abbott Says Drug Cartels Now Shooting At National Guard At ‘Abandoned’ Border

Texas Governor Greg Abbott claims "aggressive" drug cartels at the Mexican border have begun shooting at National Guard soldiers stationed there.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott claims “aggressive” drug cartels at the Mexican border have begun shooting at National Guard soldiers stationed there.

Abbott, speaking with Maria Bartiromo of Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures,” explained that the situation has turned things into a “firing war.”

“There is something that’s happening that’s getting even worse, and that is the cartels are getting even more aggressive,” he said.

“And the cartels on the Mexican side of the border, they’re beginning to open fire on the National Guard that Texas has down on the border to secure (it),” added Abbott.

He said this situation is getting to a point where “Texas and our National Guard are having to defend themselves and defend the state of Texas.”

And the Biden administration, through inaction, appears to be okay with the drug cartel invasion.

Governor Greg Abbott went on to accuse President Joe Biden of having “abandoned” the people of Texas.

Bartiromo mentioned a pair of ranchers she had interviewed that claimed “they have to carry their gun everywhere they go, including to throw away the trash.”

“Well listen, those ranchers were spot on in their assessment, and that is the Biden administration has completely abandoned those ranchers,” Abbott replied.

“The Biden administration has completely abandoned all the people who live on the border, and they’ve abandoned people in the state of Texas … the Biden administration is ignoring, and he’s putting them in danger,” the Republican governor continued.

The Abandoned Border

Government officials in Mexico warned back in March that President Biden’s border policies were encouraging illegal immigration and leading to an explosion in gang activity at the border.

“One Mexican official familiar with migration developments,” according to a Reuters report at the time, “said organized crime began changing its modus operandi ‘from the day Biden took office’ and now exhibited ‘unprecedented’ levels of sophistication.”

“Gangs are diversifying methods of smuggling and winning clients as they eye U.S. measures that will ‘incentivize migration,'” Reuters wrote.

Part of the Biden administration’s bungling of the border crisis involved the President ending the highly successful “Remain in Mexico” policy, creating an influx of migrants who believed the move meant the border was set to “reopen.”

The policy, implemented by former President Donald Trump, requires asylum seekers at the southern border to stay in Mexico while they await hearings in U.S. courtrooms.

Now, however, the Department of Homeland Security announced they will reimplement the program in mid-November, following the Supreme Court decision to reinstate the policy.

Rep. Michael McCaul (R-TX) said President Biden simply rolled back policies that worked to halt the crisis at the border simply “because it had Trump’s name on it.”

“I think it’s been the plan all along,” McCaul said. “Going back to the campaign, that’s when you started seeing the traffickers realizing the law is going to change.

“And that’s when they started moving these kids up through the border. And it became a real problem, a self-fulfilling prophecy.”

The drug cartels knew border enforcement was going to become lax under the feckless new President – Now they’ve been so emboldened that they’re allegedly shooting at the National Guard.
