Ted Cruz Shuts Down Reporter Who Said He ‘Felt Safer’ In North Korea Than He Does At The White House

CBS News White House correspondent Ben Tracy took to Twitter on Monday to outrageously claim that he “felt safer” during his time in North Korea reporting on the brutal communist regime there than he does in the White House amidst the current COVID-19 outbreak.

Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX), however, was not having any of it.

Reporter Claims He Felt Safer In North Korea Than In The White House

I felt safer reporting in North Korea than I currently do reporting at The White House. This is just crazy,” Tracy tweeted, going on to add, “For context folks, this is in reference to the COVID-19 outbreak at The White House.”

Cruz Fires Back

Understandably disturbed and offended by this tweet, Cruz fired back by writing, “That’s because you were supporting the regime…”

Other social media users slammed Tracy for his tweet as well. One responded by sharing an AFP article from last month that cited U.S. intelligence saying that North Korea has “issued shoot-to-kill orders to prevent the coronavirus entering the country from China.”

“I’m pretty sure you’d rather run the risk getting COVID in the USA before getting it in the [Democratic People’s Republic of Korea]…from what I hear a bullet is the only treatment option there,” the social media user tweeted.

Tracy Is Hit With More Backlash

Conservative attorney and Fox News personality Harmeet Dhillon got in on the action as well, mincing no words in her response to Tracy.

“Yes the White House is just like North Korea, other than the beatings, starvation, lack of electricity, organ harvesting, punishment of your parents, your children, your extended family on the basis of your network’s reporting,” Dhillon wrote. “You are a clown.”

One of the most scathing rebukes of all to Tracy’s tweet came from Saagar Enjeti, co-host of The Hill’s “Rising with Krystal and Saagar.”

“Otto Warmbier was unavailable for comment,” he wrote.

Warmbier was the American college student who was arrested in North Korea in 2016 and sentenced to fifteen years of hard labor for allegedly stealing a propaganda poster.

He was released to the United States in a coma seven months later, never regaining consciousness before he died six days later, according to NPR.

We’re certain that were he alive today, Warmbier would have a thing or two to say to someone claiming that they feel safer in North Korea than in the White House.
