Flashback: How The Media Covered Stormy Daniels vs. Monica Lewinsky

CNN has been milking the “Stormy Daniels” story harder than they milked the missing Malaysian airline, but nobody seems to care, especially Trump’s base.

One Trump supporter that CNN asked to give an opinion on Trump’s alleged affair with Daniels a decade ago: “I didn’t vote for a pastor. I see the economy has turned around,” Meadows stated. “I believe that he’s definitely a straight shooter. And what we see is what we get.” The Daily Caller reported on the bit, headlining a story in the comments “‘I Didn’t Vote For A Pastor’ – Trump Voter Stumps CNN Over Stormy Daniels Allegations.” The story is among the most shared on their site today, showing how prevalent the “who cares” attitude is among Trump’s base to this story.

Only the liberal media seems to care, which is hilarious, given how the exact opposite was true only three administrations ago. As Joseph Curl reminds us in a new article over at the Daily Wire, here’s just a sampling of the coverage in the liberal press during the Monica Lewinsky scandal.

“Is It Only About Sex?” wrote the New York Times in August 1998.

“Maybe It Is About Sex,” wrote Slate the same month.

“High crimes? Or just a sex cover-up?” Time magazine wrote the next month.

That was the tack back then, after 50-year-old Bill Clinton was accused of having sex with a 22-year-old White House intern, often in the Oval Office. Clinton vehemently denied the allegation, wagging a crooked finger as he spat: “I want you to listen to me. I did not have sexual relations with that woman, Ms. Lewinsky. I never told a single person to lie, not a single time, never.”

“After Stormy Daniels, Republicans Face a Referendum on Trump’s Conduct” the New York Times reports now.

“Stormy Daniels showcased her credibility on 60 Minutes,” reported Slate of Daniels’ recent interview with 60 Minutes.

“The Reality Show President Has Met His Match in Stormy Daniels” reported Time Magazine.

That’s quite a difference between how the same publications are covering “just sex,” and that’s hardly the only way the media catered to Bill Clinton. Remember that he had a number of women accusing him of sexual assault? You wouldn’t have had you only read the mainstream media, which hardly reported on it.

Juanita Broaddrick, who said Bill raped her in a Little Rock, Arkansas hotel room; Paula Jones, who said he sexually assaulted her; Kathleen Willey, who accused him of groping her in the Oval Office; Gennifer Flowers; who claimed she had a 12-year affair with him; and Dolly Kyle, who also claimed an affair with Clinton.

The media never believed any of them, and Hillary went after them in vicious ways. Jones, whom Clinton eventually paid $850,000, told The New York Times in 2017, “It’s like me and Juanita and Kathleen have been screaming for years for someone to pay attention to us on the liberal side, and it’s like no one would hear us. They made fun of me. They didn’t believe me. They said I was making it up.”

Studies have consistently found that 90% of the media’s coverage of the Trump administration is negative – and that doesn’t mean the remaining 10% is favorable.

How much longer do you think they’ll carry this story? Be sure to let us know in the comments section below.

  • You have to remember, we still had the "Fair and Balanced" law in the 90's. Then that these were the generation after the press took down Nixon. When the FCC took away the F&B law at the turn of the century, NEWS went from fact to opinion to down-right lies. If the facts don't suit your narrative, change them. The problem now seems that the press HATES this president so much that they will go looking in every nook and cranny to find dirt and filth to throw out to see what sticks. Their liberal bias is nothing new, and it's hypocritical. They have no shame and for people that claim to be the "intelligentsia" come off as idiots. This story is just another example of their moronic behavior. Soooo... Left leaning bias and lies? What did you really expect.
