Former President Donald Trump was recently interviewed on the American-owned, Spanish-speaking television network Univision.
Rather than seeing this as a positive step – after all, the man was President of the United States and might just be again – some people weren’t happy about it.
The Los Angeles Times reports, with their usual spin:
The interview that aired Nov. 9 was noticeably warm, and Trump received little pushback as he gave false or misleading statements on border security and immigration policies he instituted as president.
Backlash from certain corners of the Latino community has been swift, including calls for more balanced reporting and an outright boycott of the television network ahead of the 2024 election.
Latinos are considered a critical voting bloc — and largely up for grabs — in next year’s election, likely to be a rematch between Trump and President Biden. Although Latino voters have historically favored Democrats, the Republican Party in recent years has made significant progress in courting their votes.

Among those most angry include The View’s Ana Navarro-Cardenas, a Never Trumper, and a California Democrat State Senator.
Univision also received an angry letter from 70 Latino organizations, and according to reports will soon receive another from the Congressional Hispanic Caucus.

Democrats Worried Trump Can Pick Up Latino Votes
That the Univision interview even took place worried Democrats.
“The exclusive interview with Trump therefore raised significant alarms within the Democratic Party and its allies that the leading Republican candidate was making a variety of unchecked claims to important swing voters,” the LA Times noted.
Actor John Leguizamo posted a video on his Instagram and accused Univision of “softballing Trump”
He also called the network “MAGA-vision.”
Keep in mind, this is the first and only interview Trump has ever done with the network. Democrats are incapable of alternate voices being heard for even one hour.

Trump Got More Hispanic-American Votes in 2020 Than He Did in 2016
The Latino vote is an important bloc, and President Trump surprised Democrats in 2020 by picking up more of those votes than he did in 2016, and perhaps more importantly, more than anyone expected.
A 2020 LA Times report observed in late 2021:
In last year’s election, a significant number of Latino voters swung toward the GOP — not a majority, but enough to bolster former President Trump‘s margins in Florida and Texas and to narrow President Biden‘s victory in states from Nevada to Wisconsin.
For Democrats, that swing was deeply ominous: Their chance to hold on to power rests on the ability to keep together an alliance of white liberals and overwhelming majorities of Black, Latino and Asian voter…
Could Trump pick up a significant number of Hispanic-American votes in 2024?
Time will tell. But doing so would mean reaching out to those voters.
Going on Univision shows that Donald Trump understands this and is more than willing to do it. Whether or not he will be allowed back on is another question.
