Socialist Bernie Sanders Now Seems Fond of Raising Money

By David Kamioner | January 2, 2020

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) seems to be fond of money — for a socialist, that is.

His presidential primary campaign brought in $34.5 million in the fourth quarter of 2019, topping the hauls of his 2020 Democrat opponents.

It was an impressive $9 million more than he brought in during the third quarter of 2019 and was the largest quarterly donation figure brought in by a Democrat in 2019.

His campaign manager, Faiz Shakir, commented to Fox News, “Bernie Sanders is closing the year with the most donations of any candidate in history at this point in a presidential campaign. He is proving each and every day that working class Americans are ready and willing to fully fund a campaign that stands up for them and takes on the biggest corporations and the wealthy. You build a grassroots movement to beat Donald Trump and create a political revolution one $18 donation at a time, and that’s exactly why Bernie is going to win.”

Sure, this is good news for Sanders — and also especially glad tidings for one other person, President Donald Trump.

Trump and his team know that the socialist Sanders is unelectable on a national basis. They understand that the better he does, and the more the Dems are pushed to the hard-Left, the better the odds for the president in November 2020.

But it is not necessarily good news for the country in the larger sense.

The current fundraising numbers show that a sizable number of Democrats across the nation prefer a socialist for president.

For any republic to work, it must have an intelligent and viable opposition, as no majority is perfect. For the main opposition to the party in power in the White House to champion outmoded and economically disastrous ideas like socialism — a concept even the communist Chinese have jettisoned — says very unkind things about American education and culture among the young and other gullible voters.

It proves in donation numbers that many Americans simply don’t read history — and have no understanding of basic economics.

Thankfully, as the Dems lurch further and further port-side, those voters are unlikely to see their ideologies practiced at the White House level.
