It’s not every day you can discuss an incident where a prominent Democrat takes a swipe at their king, Barack Obama. But today is a different day, apparently.
Democrat Senator Bob Menendez (D-NJ) has torn into the President, calling next month’s visit with the Castro regime in Cuba “totally unacceptable.”
The administration recently confirmed a trip to Havana, Cuba has been scheduled for March.
Several Cuban-Americans interviewed by Pix 11 in New Jersey said the President’s trip is “a slap in the face.”
“They came here for a better life and now the leader of the free world is visiting a country that shuns democracy,” the reporter explained.
Menendez agrees saying, “It is totally unacceptable that the President of the United States would reward a dictator regime with a historic visit when human rights violations endure and democracy continues to be shunned.”
Here is a video clip of Menendez in 2015 criticizing the Chamber of Commerce for visiting Cuba as well:
It should be noted that liberal gay marriage activists should be thoroughly appalled by Obama’s trip as well.
Cuba has no anti-discrimination laws regarding the provisions of goods and services. None. They have no anti-discrimination laws regarding hate speech against particular groups. But they do have a constitutional ban against same-sex marriage.
At least Menendez, despite his political flaws as a Democrat, can claim he isn’t a hypocrite like his colleagues when it comes to the President and Cuba.
Comment: Do you applaud Menendez for actually standing up to Obama on this matter? What would you say to the President who is about to embark on a trip to Cuba, a regime guilty of very serious human rights violations? Share your thoughts below.
