A stunning turn of events.

For the past week, embattled Democrat representative John Conyers has fought allegations of sexual impropriety, steadfastly refusing to resign even after being accused of assaulting multiple women.

Now, we’ve just gotten word that Conyers has been hospitalized due to stress related to the ongoing scandal.

A spokesperson for Conyers told a local news outlet the following:

“I just spoke with Monica Conyers on the phone and we want you to know that the congressman is resting comfortably in an area hospital. He’s doing OK, as well as he can be expected for a gentleman that’s approaching 90 years of age,” Riddle said. “The congressman’s health is not what it should be and lot of that is directly attributable to this media assault.”

That’s an odd way of implying that the victims of Conyers’s multiple assaults are actually aggressors. Perhaps that’s not what he meant, but that’s what it implies.

Additionally, news of Conyers going to the hospital comes immediately after one of the lawmaker’s victims, Marion Brown, came forward on the “Today” show to tell her story. Here’s what she said:

“It was sexual harassment, violating my body, propositioning me, inviting me to hotels with the guise of discussing business and propositioning for sex,” Brown told Savannah Guthrie. “He just violated my body, he’s touched me in different ways. It was very uncomfortable and very unprofessional.”

You can see clips of Brown’s interview below:

This is a startling turn of events. The case against Conyers continues to gain steam. Already, many Democrats are calling for him to step down. Perhaps this hospitalized will result in his leaving office. The stress of the ongoing scandal, and the continued reporting on it, is way too much.
