NBC Takes Aim At Second Amendment – SC Gov. Nikki Haley Shuts Them Down (WATCH)

Today show host and NBC news anchor, Savannah Guthrie, tried to persuade South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley to “rethink” the Second Amendment in light of the recent shooting in Charleston.

Guthrie, after mentioning the Second Amendment, asked “Is there anything about this situation that makes you think, okay, should we rethink? Is it time for some kind of change?”

Haley immediately directed Guthrie back to the reality of the shooting, explaining that the gun wasn’t the problem, but rather there was “one person to blame here.”

Watch the exchange below …

Partial transcript from the interview:

GUTHRIE: I know the President called you yesterday. He then made some public remarks and he openly vented about mass violence and in particular gun violence in this country. I know you are a strong supporter of the Second Amendment. Is there anything about this situation that makes you think, okay, should we rethink? Is it time for some kind of change?

HALEY: Any time there is a traumatic situation, people want something to blame. They always want something to go after. There is one person to blame here. A person filled with hate, a person that doesn’t define South Carolina. And we are going to focus on that person. I know President Obama has his job to do, and he made those statements. But my job is to now get this state to heal and our focus, very much, is on those nine families. It’s on the Mother Emanuel Church family. It’s on the AME family and it’s on the people of South Carolina who are saying that one person doesn’t define us. What’s happening in churches now around the state, that defines us.

It all goes back to the simple adage that ‘guns don’t kill people, people kill people’. Why are simple concepts like that so difficult for journalists like Guthrie to understand?

Comment:  Are liberals in the media and government trying to exploit the tragedy in Charleston to further their anti-Second Amendment agenda?

  • Why are journalists such strong proponents of the destruction of the Bill of Rights? Because so far, they're not on the business end of that destruction. They are partners with tyrants who would subjugate us through the suppression of the Bill of Rights, in particular, the First (which will soon affect journalists) and Second Amendments. But underneath, why do they do this? Because it's a popular thing to do. It gets them popularity, which is crucial to their professional success. This is pervasive throughout popular media, musicians, actors--all people whose professions depend on pandering to the masses and right now, playing on the emotional side of these tragedies is hugely popular.

  • As the writer commented, the simplicity of what is "going on" in our country is NOT gun control, it is control of gun owners. The only thing other than the power of voting (which has been overrun by this government is a method to protect our families and homes. It is an American right that has been in place since BEFORE the Constitution was penned. Read what the authors of that document had to say about fire arms.

  • Are liberals in the media and government trying to exploit the tragedy in Charleston to further their anti-Second Amendment agenda?

they never let a crisis go to waste to push their agenda (lies)

  • she is just as big an a-hole as the rest in washington....gets rid of the confederate flag just to appease the blacks.....it's all crap and about VOTES...I just bought 4 more confederate flags to add to the one I already fly....I have nothing against blacks in general except the so called a-freecan american blacks, so I guess I'm a % racist....SO BE IT.....PERIOD.....KTN.....

  • False story, dude. He bought it himself. Passed the background check and everything............

  • The confederate flag is only peripherally involved due to the observation that it was not at half staff. It became important due to the media. The confederate flag represents a failed way of life, slavery, and rebellion. It represents repression to those who think it should be in a museum. I would bet that if a referendum was held, that flag would be gone. As for the media moron Savannah Guthrie who idiotically asked if the 2nd amendment should be done away with because of gun violence, I would respond that Dylann Roof is SOLELY responsible for killing those people-not the 2nd amendment. He bought his gun legally at a gun store and passed there background check. The reality is that gun violence will not disappear UNLESS legislators stoop treating honest gun owners like criminals, while the real criminals aren't affected in the least. Make the penalty for using a gun criminally so severe that no criminal would ever want to be caught with as gun. Harassing honest people will never prevent bad people from doing their evil.

  • However, Johnathan, there's a reason that there are road rules, speed limits, traffic lights etc., and it is to police the operator through their device. Because when given a device that has the POTENTIAL to hurt people, then the small amount of people that would misuse it force us to police everyone. What I mean is this, just because 95% of people could and would drive responsibly if there were no speed limits, does that mean we should get rid of speed limits altogether? Of course not, because the other 5% would be stupid, reckless and end up killing people. It's the same with guns, just because 99% of people can and will use their guns responsibly, the 1% will eventually screw up so badly that we will realize that there need to be more regulation.

On another note, I'm with you on the flag business. Get the heck over it, it's just a flag. And anyways, the Stars and Stripes flew over a slave nation for 90 years, but no one is calling for the removal of that flag...
