Nancy Pelosi Says Maxine Waters Shouldn’t Apologize For ‘Confrontation’ Comments In Minnesota

On Monday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said that Congresswoman Maxine Waters had nothing to apologize for after the Democrat made some controversial comments in Minnesota over the weekend.

On Sunday, Waters traveled to Minnesota and told protesters and reporters in Brooklyn Center, “We’ve got to stay on the street and we’ve got to get more active, we’ve got to get more confrontational.”

Fox reports that Waters had been asked by reporters about the Chauvin trial when she made her remarks.

When a reporter asked Pelosi if Waters needed to apologize, Pelosi replied, “No, she doesn’t.”

Pelosi On Waters: ‘No, I Don’t Think She Should Apologize’

Instead, Pelosi called on a Republican Representative to apologize.

“That woman on the floor should be apologizing for what she said,” Pelosi added, referencing comments by Republican Congresswoman Lisa McClain, who spoke on the controversy on the House floor on Monday.

“Maxine talked about confrontation in the manner of the civil rights movement,” Pelosi said, defending Waters.

“I myself think we should take our lead from the George Floyd family,” Pelosi said. “They’ve handled this with great dignity and no ambiguity or lack of — misinterpretation by the other side.”

“No, I don’t think she should apologize,” Pelosi added.

Pelosi was then asked if Waters comments could incite violence. “No, absolutely not,” Pelosi responded.

The Twin Cities area in Minnesota is currently awaiting the verdict in the trial of Derek Chauvin, the former police officer charged with murder in the death of George Floyd.

Congresswoman McClain, who Pelosi referenced, criticized Waters for her controversial comments.

“Once again, this weekend, we saw a member of the majority openly call for more confrontation in a Minneapolis suburb,” McClain said on the House floor speech.

“That very night, there was a drive-by shooting in that community where police and the National Guardsmen were targeted,” McClain said.

The Republican added, “If this were reversed, if this was said by a Republican, you know that the majority in this chamber would move to strip that representative of their committees and possibly to expel them from Congress.”

Waters: ‘Republicans Will Jump On Any Word’

Waters blasted Republican critics in a Monday interview.

Waters said, “Republicans will jump on any word, any line and try to make it fit their message and their cause for denouncing us and denying us, basically calling us violent … any time they see an opportunity to seize on a word, so they do it and they send a message to all of the white supremacists, the KKK, the Oath Keepers, the [Proud] Boys and all of that how this is a time for [Republicans] to raise money on [Democrats’] backs.”
