#MeToo Earthquake: Weinstein Jury Can’t Decide On Two Counts

Hollywood, New York media, and the #Metoo movement have been rocked by reports that jurors in the high profile trial of former Hollywood film mogul may give up as hung jury on two rape counts against Weinstein.

There are three other counts of rape involving other women. They carry possible sentences of 5-25 years.

But not convicting Weinstein on those two counts would qualify as a victory for him and a serious hit for the #Metoo movement that has proclaimed him guilty on all charges.

Leaders of that movement will not be happy and will no doubt decry anything less than conviction on all counts as a miscarriage of justice.

The specific charges at question involve his alleged 1993-1994 sexual assault on actress Annabella Sciorra. The Sopranos actress had interactions with Weinstein after the alleged sexual assault and the jury’s questions and apparent deadlock are focusing on that subject.

The trial ended for the weekend without any verdict on any of the charges. Monday will prove critical. Weinstein is still likely to be convicted on the other counts and spend the rest of his life in prison.

In an ironic Tinseltown twist, it is reported that only one juror is holding out on the two counts involving Sciorra. That makes the scenario reminiscent of the Hollywood classic Twelve Angry Men.
