Marjorie Taylor Greene Challenges AOC To A Debate On The Green New Deal

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene issued a debate challenge to her colleague, far-left Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC), regarding the Democrat’s Green New Deal proposal.

Greene (R) issued the challenge via a series of tweets.

“AOC I’d like to challenge you to a debate on the Green New Deal economic policy,” she wrote.

She suggested a discussion on the merits of the Green New Deal would be of interest to a national audience and said the pair could even choose their own moderators.

Greene advised pitting her degree in business administration and experience running a company up against Ocasio-Cortez’s degree in economics “would be informative for the American People.”

AOC Challenged To Debate by Marjorie Taylor Greene

Marjorie Taylor Greene also suggested the debate be done in a pay-per-view format with proceeds going to a charity of their choosing.

“We can negotiate a major news network to host the debate,” she added. “Let’s do this for The People. What do you say?”

A debate between what many consider the far left and far right of their respective parties would no doubt generate interest.

AOC has yet to respond to the debate challenge on her own Green New Deal proposal and hasn’t had any activity on Twitter since Tuesday.

Newly-elected Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) recently penned an op-ed column in which she claims President Biden’s latest $2 trillion “infrastructure” bill is a thinly disguised version of the Green New Deal.

“The plan incorporates large swaths of the socialist ‘Green New Deal,’ which remains firmly planted on the brains and wish lists of socialists in the House and Senate despite both Congress and voters rejecting the bill,” she writes.

Mace goes on to point out similarities including:

  • $175 billion dedicated to subsidizing electric vehicles.
  • $100 billion allocated to building new public schools to make school lunches ‘Greener.’
  • $200 billion is meant to green up and fix our power grid.

Mace argues that half the “infrastructure” bill would be going to “Green New Deal-style waste.”

A Force To Be Reckoned With

Despite courting controversy with her past comments on social media and her willingness to dabble in fringe conspiracy theories, Marjorie Taylor Greene has some clout in the future of the Republican party.

According to Politico, Greene raised over $3.2 million in the first quarter of 2021, who describes the fundraising haul as “staggering” and “eye-popping.”

Her sway was blunted by Democrats forcing her off committees, but the fundraising indicates she still has support from fans of former President Donald Trump.

Additionally, a Quinnipiac University poll has shown voters believe Greene more exemplifies the Republican Party than the typical moderate GOP lawmaker.

AOC, by contrast, has been rated one of the least effective Democrat members of Congress and has been mocked by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi in her new biography.

Perhaps AOC could restore her standing by accepting a debate challenge from Taylor Greene.
