Study Names AOC As One Of The Least Effective Members Of Congress

A study by the nonpartisan Center for Effective Lawmaking indicates Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) is one of the least effective members of Congress.

A study by the nonpartisan Center for Effective Lawmaking indicates far-left Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) is one of the least effective Democrat members of Congress.

The study references the New York Socialist’s total of 21 bills introduced, of which zero received action in committees, floor votes, or became law.

Ocasio-Cortez is ranked 230th out of 240 on the list of effective Democrat lawmakers.

“She introduced a lot of bills, but she was not successful at having them receive any sort of action in committee or beyond committee and if they can’t get through committee they cannot pass the House,” political scientist Alan Wiseman told the New York Post.

“She wasn’t as successful as some other members were — even among [other] freshmen — at getting people to pay attention to her legislation,” Wiseman added.

AOC Not Very Effective

Fox News reports that some of the bills AOC introduced that died without action were “a federal overhaul of public housing, a ban on fracking and a mandate to provide full federal public benefits to illegal immigrants.”

One Democrat insider, according to the network, suggests AOC didn’t have the knowledge of the process in getting legislation passed and was alienating in her approach.

“Tweeting is easy, governing is hard. You need to have friends. You need to understand the committee process, you need to be willing to make sacrifices,” they said.

The insider also noted how Ocasio-Cortez spent her first day in Congress engaged in a protest outside of Nancy Pelosi’s office.

Months prior to actually being seated in the House, AOC took part in a climate-change protest with activists who were carrying “stand up or step aside signs” meant for Pelosi in her own office.

Who Was More – Or Less – Effective?

Speaking of Nancy Pelosi – of the 10 Democrat House members ranked even less effective than AOC, Pelosi sits at number 237.

Of course, her role as House Speaker and Democrat leader is defined more by efforts to rally the caucus for their causes than in pushing her own authored legislation.

Pelosi sponsored one bill which received committee action and was passed by the House.

The other nine Democrats ranking lower than AOC were: Collin Allred (TX), Andre Carson (IN), Katherine Clark (MA), Dwight Evans (PA), Ann Kirkpatrick (AZ), Jim Costa (CA), Pelosi (CA), Pete Aguilar (CA), Kwanza Hall (GA), and Jim Cooper (PA).

AOC’s ‘Squad’-mates all ranked more effective than she did on this list.

Rashida Tlaib (MI) ranked 92nd, Ayanna Pressley (MA) came in at 175th, and Ilhan Omar (MN) was 214th.

The Squad has the loudest mouths by far, but are some of the more ineffective members in all of Congress.

The Jerusalem Post reports that fellow New York Democrat Nita Lowey who retired last year was by the far most effective Democrat in the House, while John Katko (R-NY) was ranked the most effective Republican “with six of his bills becoming laws.”
