This could have been a very close call.

This morning, Secrete Service apprehended a man with a loaded gun in a vehicle outside the White House. The incident occurred  around 2:30 a.m. early this morning near 15th St. and New York Ave. The man was apparently acting very suspiciously.

A local ABC affiliate reported the following:

A DC police report states that 43-year-old Bryan Mchugh of Alexandria, Virginia, told responding officers that the vehicle “contained a pressure switch with extra gasoline” but after searching the vehicle the officers deemed it safe.

The vehicle was reportedly towed away around 5 a.m. this morning. Mchugh is facing charges of having an unregistered firearm and carrying without a license.

The Secret Service released the following statement after the incident:

“On January 23, 2018, at approximately 2:30 a.m., Secret Service Uniformed Division officers were alerted to a suspicious vehicle in the vicinity of the White House complex. During their investigation Officers discovered the operator of the vehicle was in possession of a loaded firearm. Explosive ordnance disposal personnel from the Metropolitan Police Department were called to the scene to assist and declared the previously occupied vehicle safe. The operator of the vehicle was arrested and charged with Carrying a Pistol Without a License, Possession of an Unregistered Firearm, and Possession of Unregistered Ammunition. This subject was transported to MPD for processing. H Street between 15th and 17th Streets was temporarily closed to all traffic but is now reopened.”

This isn’t the first close call at the White House during Trump’s presidency. A man vowing to kill all white people was arrested near the White House grounds back in November.

At this point, this situation appears to be under control.
