Dr. Karen Halnon, a sociology professor at Pennsylvania State University-Abington created quite a scene on a plane flying from Nicaragua to Miami. Kelly Martin, an Old Dominion student, filmed Halnon’s tirade. She screamed hard left talking points about the United States declaring war on Venezuela. Hanlon’s thesis about treatments for women and hysteria earned her a PhD from Boston College.

To further alarm her fellow passengers, Halnon lit a cigarette. When confronted by an airline stewardess, she said it was the person sitting next to her who was smoking. Halnon later said she was smoking to show solidarity with Fidel Castro and her hero Hugo Chavez.

“Listen, the point is, I am a sociologist, and I live in an intellectual world. A sociologist always thinks in terms of symbols. And every revolutionary I know smokes. It was identifying with the revolutionary cause. And then, beyond that, it is a symbol that the United States is a smoking gun. The action was necessary. They are going to kill many more people.”

She also claimed the FBI and TSA tortured her when she landed and was arrested. Dr. Halnon said it wasn’t a mistake for her to speak out on the plane and she would do it again if given the opportunity.

The University is aware of Halnon’s arrest and behavior and are looking into the matter.

If your child was a student of Dr. Halnon’s, how would you react?
