Lady Gaga Sings Controversial ‘This Land Is Your Land’ During Super Bowl Halftime Show

***UPDATE***

It appears that Lady Gaga’s lefty performance at the Super Bowl paid off as she saw a serge in sales of her music, with 150,000 song and album downloads during the game.

Last night, pop singer Lady Gaga performed during the Super Bowl halftime show, and while many people praised the singer’s show for its allegedly apolitical theme, she did send a hidden message that conservatives didn’t notice, for the most part.

First, lets recap how many in the media praised Lady Gaga’s alleged apolitical performance last night, courtesy of The Washington Post:

While some in the media were pretending that Lady Gaga’s performance had no political undertones, many on the left noticed the message she sent. The Hillary Clinton supporter sang the controversial song “This Land Is Your Land” by Woody Guthrie, which the far-left singer wrote after he became disgusted with the popular “God Bless America” performed by Kate Smith.

The song was recorded in 1944 at the height of World War II, and while America’s boys were dying for our freedom, Guthrie was busy knocking our country down.

Here’s a portion of the lyrics from the song:

As I went walking I saw a sign there
And on the sign it said “No Trespassing.”
But on the other side it didn’t say nothing,
That side was made for you and me.

In the shadow of the steeple I saw my people,
By the relief office I seen my people;
As they stood there hungry, I stood there asking
Is this land made for you and me?

Nobody living can ever stop me,
As I go walking that freedom highway;
Nobody living can ever make me turn back
This land was made for you and me.

The left has adopted this song and plays it during many anti-Trump protests that have emerged since the 2016 election. As USA Today explains: “The song is popular at protests because it sort of is a protest song. The U.S. Library of Congress said Guthrie, a product of the Great Depression, wrote it in response to “God Bless America.” Guthrie didn’t like the song because he said it ignored the uneven distribution of wealth in America.”

Here’s how the liberal New Yorker described Guthrie’s far-left political ideology:

Guthrie’s inchoate socialist leanings grew into a deep commitment to the labor movement and to the social and political adventurism of the American Communist Party. (Guthrie never joined the Party—his independence was such that he “was not affiliated with anything,” according to his sister Mary Jo; he did follow the Party line, however, down to belittling Roosevelt as a warmonger during the period of the German-Soviet non-aggression pact, and he wrote a column called “Woody Sez,” in hillbilly dialect, for the C.P.U.S.A. organs People’s World and Daily Worker.)

Remember, Gaga intertwined “This Land Is Your Land” with “God Bless America,” and PJ Media explains the political message behind this choice:

The original Guthrie song included these lyrics: “As I went walking I saw a sign there And on the sign it said ‘No Trespassing.’ But on the other side it didn’t say nothing, That side was made for you and me.” So, by segueing between the two ballads, Gaga was making the statement that “This Land is Your Land” is the anthem we should be embodying in the 21st century. And many protesters have been singing the Guthrie song as part of their anti-Trump rhetoric too. While subtle, Gaga made some political commentary after all.

Do you think Lady Gaga deliberately sang “This Land Is Your Land” during her Super Bowl halftime performance to make a far-left political statement?
