MSNBC, in all their hysterics, has taken the tragedy that occurred 17 years ago today and politicized it against President Donald Trump.
MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough argued in a column at The Washington Post this morning that the 9/11 attacks weren’t as damaging as the Trump presidency. The entirety of the article can be summarized by the headline: “Trump is harming the dream of America more than any foreign adversary ever could.”
Yes, really.
“For those of us still believing that Islamic extremists hate America because of the freedoms we guarantee to all people, the gravest threat Trump poses to our national security is the damage done daily to America’s image,” begins the op-ed. Scarborough argued that “sixteen years of strategic missteps” not only set the stage for then-candidate Donald Trump’s brand of populism, but have allowed him to “lend a sympathetic ear to neo-Nazis and white supremacists across the globe.” Admittedly I’m not sure why he thinks those two things are related.
Not much made sense in the piece which was probably written just for the sake of garnering attention.
“Osama bin Laden was killed by SEAL Team 6 before he accomplished that goal. Other tyrants who tried to do the same were consigned to the ash heap of history. The question for voters this fall is whether their country will move beyond this troubled chapter in history or whether they will continue supporting a politician who has done more damage to the dream of America than any foreign adversary ever could,” Scarborough concludes.
In the past Scarborough has compared Trump to Pontius Pilate, so perhaps the al-Qaeda comparison is relatively tame, given one’s theology.
The absurdity continued on MSNBC, when Joe opened with a discussion about 9/11 and his op-ed on “Morning Joe.” (Video should begin at (9:25):
Just about nobody agreed with Joe as you see with this sampling of tweets.
This is sick. This is deranged. Joe Scarborough should hang his disturbed head in shame and he should resign from public life forever after this shameful analogy. This coward is an embarrassment to himself, his network, and anyone who claims him. https://t.co/RsBWg1Q8t5

This premise is freaking stupid, just provocative for the sake of being provocative. https://t.co/wZHtLIHpTQ

Ignore people like this today.
Focus on the memories of those who sacrificed themselves to save others.
Remember the day. https://t.co/x0xnEPFBrB

It's a good thing to keep an open mind, but not so much that your brains fall out. Reckless hyperbole like this, by the way, is one of the reasons Trump won in 2016. https://t.co/8dXvXfwimA

Ben Howe pointed out that Scarborough was previously a friend of Trump’s, so by Joe’s own logic, he’s the enabler of someone apparently more dangerous than al-Qaeda.
What's it like to know you spent years helping elevate someone that you now say is more dangerous than 9/11 terrorists, Joe? https://t.co/IMW7Xk674h

Scarborough didn’t turn on Trump until mid-2016, having initially supported his candidacy. “Republicans who remain quiet and tacitly stand behind Trump damage the party’s brand so badly that not only does Hillary become president but they also lose the Senate and also get slaughtered in the House,” he said after he announced his change from then-candidate Trump’s de-facto cheerleader on MSNBC, to his chief “Republican” critic.
While Joe claims that Trump’s erratic behavior is what led to him opposing the candidate, perhaps it’s Trump’s relationship with Joe’s now-fiance Mike Brezinski that caused that change…
I heard poorly rated @Morning_Joe speaks badly of me (don't watch anymore). Then how come low I.Q. Crazy Mika, along with Psycho Joe, came..

…to Mar-a-Lago 3 nights in a row around New Year's Eve, and insisted on joining me. She was bleeding badly from a face-lift. I said no!

I guess he really doesn’t want to end up in the dog house.
That aside – does Joe think that there aren’t Trump supporters who lost family members on 9/11? Certainly they’d disagree with his asinine analysis.
