Joe Biden Is the 2020 Democrat Front-Runner

A new front-runner has emerged in what’s looking like a crowded 2020 Democrat presidential field. And this may come as a shock, but the candidate is the most loathsome creature for modern-day Democrats: a straight white male.

That’s right: The Democrats greatest hope for making Donald Trump a one-term president is none other than former Vice President Joe Biden.

And for those keeping score at home, here’s one fun fact about good old Uncle Joe: he’s currently 75 years of age. That means he’ll be 77 when he’s sworn into office, should he win in 2020.

Are Democrats, which are now the party of 28-year-old Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, really prepared to make Biden their champion? (RELATED: Delusional Democratic Socialist Ocasio-Cortez Doesn’t Understand Her Own Party’s Ideology.)

According to a new poll, yes, yes, they are. A poll from Zogby Analytics recently found that Biden is the preferred candidate of Democrats in a wide field. (RELATED: Poll: Gropin’ Joe Biden Leads Field of Democrat Challengers For 2020.)

But there’s more. A new poll from Politico actually has Biden leading Trump in a hypothetical matchup:

Former Vice President Joe Biden leads President Donald Trump by 7 percentage points in a head-to-head match-up, according to a new POLITICO/Morning Consult poll.

A plurality of registered voters, 44 percent, said they’d choose Biden in the 2020 presidential election, while 37 percent of voters said they would vote for Trump.

Here’s why I don’t think Biden will be the Democrat nominee, let alone beat Trump in 2020. First, Democrat voters want a fresh face and not someone who already spent 8 years in the halls of power. Biden is an amiable guy, but he’s not a woman, a minority, or an atheist. He’s an old white Catholic. That identity doesn’t sell in the party of varying identities.

Second, Biden may lead in the polls against Trump now, but he won’t should he jump in the ring. A reminder: Biden tried to play a tough guy before, threatening to wallop Trump like a high school nerd. Trump shot back and Biden quickly backed down. Courage of convictions? Uncheck. Third, after what happened in 2016, where Hillary was supposed to beat Trump by 20 points or more, you can’t trust polls. Not two years away, and not even on Election Day.

Biden may feel the wind at his back, but it could also be the lackluster breeze of familiarity, as Democrats latch on to anyone who might have a shot at beating Trump.

Too bad for Biden that he doesn’t stand a chance against the brash billionaire. But that’s just my opinion. We’ll see what happens on Election Day.
