Senator Jeff Flake is an absolute disgrace.
He likes to pretend to be a noble figure, but all he is is a thorn in the President’s side. And he’s not an annoyance out of a higher principle. Flake is bitter that he can no longer remain in the Republican Party after Trump pushed it towards immigration restrictionism. Since Flake couldn’t win the Republican primary in his state, and because he’s on the outs with the President, he’s now trying to upend his agenda, starting with the confirmation vote of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court.
Over the weekend, a woman came forward to publicly accuse Kavanaugh of sexual assault. The incident dates back to their high school days. Despite being informed of the allegations back in July, Senator Diane Feinstein conveniently waited until just before the vote to bring them up, causing the most upheaval possible. This is an obvious ploy meant to delay the vote until after the midterm elections, when Democrats can make the case that they should get more of a say on the nominee, assuming they win back the Senate.
And it looks like Flake is falling into the honeytrap. Flake told a reporter from The Washington Post that he thinks the Senate Judiciary Committee vote should be delayed in light of new evidence:

It seems like Flake is trying to shiv Trump one more time before he leaves Congress at the end of the year. But it won’t likely matter. Having the Senate Judiciary Committee voice its support for a Supreme Court nominee isn’t required. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell can order a full confirmation vote at any time.
Flake thinks he might be tanking the process, but he’s only delaying what should be inevitable: the final confirmation of Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court.
